BowJoe
I just bought a McKenzie Tuff Buck target but want to use it as a decoy. What luck have you had with decoying and what tips can you give me? When do you use it? Is it anything like the Videos?
Tony
Re: Does any body here decoy? i have been using a Carry lite decoy for 5 years now.. the main thing i can tell you is use it all the time.. i never spray scent on my decoy.. i always apply scent to a scent wick of some kind and place it near the rear of the decoy . sometimes i leave it near my tree overnight if im coming back to hunt the next morning. i dont want the deer to find it in the middle of the night because of the scent being on the decoy.. oh i lay it down also.. when i use it i always make sure its as scent free as possible.. that means washing it down and spraying some type of oder neutralizer on it.... that also means using gloves when you carry it. you must determine how you want to use it . as a buck or doe.. a buck is great during pre rut and as a doe during the rut.. but i never use it as a doe during pre rut. because it makes other does suspicious and if they get snotty you know the game is up.. next is setup , you should set the decoy up so that you leave room for the buck thats coming in to get downwind.. a buck coming to a buck decoy will most of the time approach from the head of the decoy.. if its a doe decoy they like to get to the rear of the decoy.. use this to your advantage when setting up the decoy.. try to use the land as a funnel to make the buck go around to get between you and the decoy, that way his attention is on it not you .. another thing to do is put strips of unscented toilet paper on the ears and tail . that way when the wind blows they move slightly and create the idea of movement on your decoy.. i like 4 inch long by 1 inch wide strips.. i have had many bucks come in to my decoy , i even shot a coyote with bow last year that was stalking my decoy... you will see some really interesting things if you use a decoy. good luck Shoot Strong Tony
BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Does any body here decoy? I use the Renzo decoys they are lifelike and very light to carry in and out for the money they are the ticket.

slughunter
Re: Does any body here decoy? i use one of those decoys that look like the deer is laying down. i use it as a buck most of the time but it atracts more turkeys than deer, they sit there and peck at it. Missed160
Re: Does any body here decoy? I have used a Flambou doe decoy for a couple years.. I think it adds some fun. I have not had any deer ever spook from it. I have had planty of deer come in to it, shot 1 buck that saw it & came running to it. I have had plenty of small bucks & does come to it also. I would recommend trying one..
Tominator
Re: Does any body here decoy? Yep. They work in certain times of the year. The thing I don't like about them is it tends to make the deer nervous.
ksdeerhunter03
Re: Does any body here decoy? I use a Mojo Guide series buck, it is remoto controlled and moves its tail, head and body. I normally wait to use it as a buck until they are really starting to fight. I am convinced it will get you that extra 20-30 yards that they need to come on in 100% of the time, if you use it and set it up properly! HEAVIER_THAN_STEEL
Re: Does any body here decoy? works great during the rut and face it toward your stand cause a buck will want to look it in the face and that will give you a chance to draw on him!! puffy
Re: Does any body here decoy? I'ved used my Flambeau 3-D target a few times with good success. Tony is right when he says not to leave any scent on the decoy other than a lure scent placed at the rear or where the tarsal gland is located. My buddy bagged a nice buck shortly before the rut, using a doe decoy. Try it out, it's sometimes funny to see how they react.

double_drop
Re: Does any body here decoy? I use a cheap renzos doe decoy. I works very well. Used it last year to shoot my 8 point that scored 153 3/8. Very pleased with it and plan on keep using it for years to come.
