Silent phone calls

Do any of you ever hear the phone ring, you pick it up and say "hello", and no one answers? Just this morning I get up, settle down to watch some hunting on ESPN, and the phone rings at 9am. I'm thinking "who calls us at 9am on Sunday morning?" I answer, saying "Hello, Ruth speaking" and get nothing back. We've had this happen before but this time I hear stuff in the backround then I hear a voice say "did you hear that?" Stupid stupid people whoever they are! I only know of 2 possibilities of who it could be who would do such a thing and have our phone number, but I'm not going to accuse anyone yet. Probably a bunch of bored kids somewhere dialing any number they think of. Still, it is really annoying and not a nice thing to do. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Silent phone calls

They are automated telemarketer calls......what it does is determines when you are most likely home, by keeping track of when you pick up.......then you will start getting more calls at those most probable times, most likely from a real person those next times around.......

Go to Walmart and get an el-cheapo Telemarketer zapper......they simply plug into an extra phone jack, and what they do is confuse their programming into thinking the number is no longer in service.........since installing ours nearly 6 months ago, we've gone from about 8-10 calls a day to ZERO.........it sure is nice to have piece and quite again.....

And don't get me started on the do not call list......we're on it, and it never mattered.....

Re: Silent phone calls

Yep but it's almost always my ex-wife. grin.gif My number is coded in her cell phone and she always forgets to disable the buttons when she throws it in her purse. Let that sucker bounce around and few times and there's no telling who she's liable to be calling. crazy.gif

Keep answering it though Ruth because you never know when it could be Ed McMahon. grin.gif

grin.gifgrin.gif Now that's funny right there grin.gif

It reminds me of the time I was driving home from work and this lady calls me, to tell me to quit calling her ..LOL. I guess my cell phone had dialled in an actual number, because my seatbelt was pressing against it, and kept redialling her. I was embarrassed more than anything else. Now I use the lock-keys feature. grin.gif

Re: Silent phone calls

We dont get calls like that very often, but do frequently get calls where the caller asks "who is this" to which my response is always "you called me, who are you?" Seems some folks around here frequently misdial the last four digits of our number trying to reach a local clinic and the local hospital.
