Rhino
Been shooting X bullets for some time now in my reloads and never had a problem. I started using them (if memory serves) about 7 years ago. I like them so much that's just about all I use anymore, including my muzzleloader. Never heard of one that didn't properly expand before. I have heard of people not being able to group with them but after questioning them about not cleaning the old copper fouling out of their barrels first I understood why. AJ
Re: Barne-X - or Spire point for handloads? Unless you were using the 257 Wby for elk, I would not use X-Bullets. Jacketed lead bullets will work just fine. I have tried X-Bullets and while they shot ok, I can do much better with standard versions, or other premium bullets. I am not a big fan of them. Weatherby stuffs them with Hornady bullets or premium bullets.
bearcat
Re: Barne-X - or Spire point for handloads? If you want to load Hornady bullets, I would go with the Interbond. The Interbond's are basically a bonded SST. The SST is a little tougher than the ballistic tip. Interbonds are very accurate, they expand reliably at variable ranges, and best of all they stay together. I have read tests where they outpenetrate other bonded bullets of same weight and caliber. Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr
Re: Barne-X - or Spire point for handloads? I was using the Nosler Partitions but have switched to the Hornady Interbonds. I ave had the same problem with the Barnes on deer sized game. AJ
Re: Barne-X - or Spire point for handloads? [ QUOTE ] AJ would you say the 100 gr spire pt then or the nosler ballistic tip would be a better round. [/ QUOTE ] As long as your shots are at least 100 yards they should be ok. They are going to frag a bit on close range shots with the Wby. Swift is supposed to release a .25 caliber version of their Scirocco. Hornady also has the 117 gr SST. The Nosler 110 gr Accubond would also be a good choice.
