AJ Posted September 27, 2005 Report Share Posted September 27, 2005 Recoil depends on the cartridge and the weight of the gun. In a 223 Rem, there is not much recoil anyhow. Even a kid should not find the recoil offensive in a 223. The Handi Rifles are great guns. I have a few of them in my safe. They are very accurate, compact, and inexpensive. For an 8 year old I would definately get the ultra-light youth 223. The wieght is not that big of an issue, but the youth model is only 33" long and would probibly fit her pretty well. My daughter is 50" tall and it's just a about right for her. If she's only taking short shots I would seriously consider a red dot scope. I can keep about a 6" cirlcle at 50yards shooting freehand with it. I would think a rifle would be a lot better. Of course the more you spend the better it's going to be. But for your situation, I'd go with cheap. I've had this one for 2 years and shot about 2 or 3K shells while using it. The only problem I've had is forgetting it is on and running the battery down. BTW I'm planning on putting it on my 30-30 this year for my dad to use. He's not very comfortable with a scope and can't see to use open sights. bigblueraptor Posted September 30, 2005 Report Share Posted September 30, 2005 Re: NEF Superlight they are very accurate rifles but the superlight barrel heats up very quickly. after three shots your going off the paper. also handis dont like to get shot clean. after you clean it shoot it a couple times before you go into the woods. if you shoot out of a clean barrel the first shot is off. another thing you might like to try is the oring trick. some like it and some dont. 2 of mine shot better with it and two didnt i have a survivor heavy barrel that shoots moa with factory loads out of the box best of the bunch Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
