Re: Shoot thru scope mounts

You will probably get a lot of differing opinions on this post.

Personally, I like see through scope mounts.

I had no trouble getting use to a higher site line than with a close fitting scope.

You can put almost any size scope on it without worrying about the size of the Objective end of the scope.

The extra distance between the action and the scope will keep your primer blow-back from staining or otherwise damaging the scope. (especially on bolt-action in-line muzzleloaders.)

The higher position will also aid in loading the primer in most bolt-action in-lines.

Some may argue that the higher position throws off the accuracy. I have not noticed any difference.

Some may say the scope is perched so high, that it makes the mounts more fragile and susceptible to damage. Don't use the scope as a carry handle.

You may need a wider gun case, or sleeve, or scabbard.

Try to stick with steel mounts and stay away from aluminum. (although some of mine are aluminum, and I have had no problem with them.)

I would say to go for it, and if later you decide you do not like the see-through mounts, you can always switch back.

It is still up to you....

Good shootin'.

Re: Shoot thru scope mounts

It really depends on the back stock on different guns

if you can see through them or not. They are not that expensive, try some and see what you think. I have always liked my scopes hugging my barrel. I have a TC Encore with low mounts. That is what fits me the best. popgun is correct also on this. I also have 3-9 power scope on it so I can turn it low in heavy cover. Let us know what you decide smile.gif

Any suggestions or opinions for shoot through scope mounts for an Omega. I'll be hunting some brushy areas where I may need to use the open sights under the scope. Thanks in advance.

I'd go with quick-detach rings instead, and do.
