When should I...

...schedule my vacation?

I work a 4 on 4 off schedule so what ever 4 days I take off I theoretically have the previous 4 and latter 4 off also. I was thinking about taking off Nov 3-6 which would give me off Oct 30- Nov 10. Or take Nov 11- 14 off and actually be off Nov 7- 18. I hunt in Southern Illinois and am trying to decide when I would be best suited to catch the heavy chase period leading into the heart of the rut.

I presented this same dilemna a couple months ago but haven't made a decision yet.

Re: When should I...

If it was me, I'd take off during the latter time frame. It's been during that time frame the last few years that deer activity has been at it highest in my hunting area. I've noticed that the buck movement in our area doesn't hit hard until after the first of November usually.

Re: When should I...

I would take the latter. Here in TN I have seen the heaviest rutting the week before gun opener through the first week of gun. This is the two weeks before thanksgiving. You being a little further north yours should be a little earlier, but not by much.

Re: When should I...

With the second moon coming later this year then previous I would tend to schedule for the latter of the 2 I personally am going to plan around the 20th for my peak season here in Iowa you will probably be right on with the 11-14th. Thats if you beleive in the moon phase for rut activity ... I do alot dont

Re: When should I...

I'd go for the earlier vacation. The last 2 years, I took off the 2nd week of Nov in Wis and was disappointed. I believe I hit the actual breeding period where the bucks weren't running, just hiding with does.
