whitetailtrax
This is something that's had me puzzled for years. Here's the story: It's opening morning of my first ever bow hunt about 15 years ago. I'm in a stand and wouldn't you know a bachelor group of 4 velvet bucks is walking head to tail right into my shooting lane and they stop practically overlapping. Well, there's no question about which one to take, as he was a 4-point and the others were forked horns. Of course I was shaking to no end, but I drew back and carefully put my 20 yard pin behind the shoulder and released. I didn't see the flight of the arrow, but heard a smack and watched as the 4-point ran off with no arrow sticking out and not noticably hit......all 4 deer went opposite directions. I watched him for 15 minutes as he left the area and it was clearly a clean miss. About a half hour later I got out of the stand and went to retreive my arrow....but couldn't find it anywhere and boy was I getting mad until I looked down and saw a drop of blood.....and then another....and another....going the opposite direction of the 4-point! To make a long story shorter, I shot the wrong deer and a perfect shot it was!!!!! So my question is.....did I miss so badly on the 4-point and accidentally make a perfect shot on a different deer...or did I simply aim at the wrong deer???? I thought for sure I had the right buck in my sites. To this day my buddies give me a hard time about flock shooting deer lol!
Guest tyshe17
Re: Flock shooting deer?!?! look your the one telling the story...if it was me you picked out the one with the worst genetics, slipped the arrow between two other deer and double lunged him on your very first hunt! BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Flock shooting deer?!?! I would say you just pinned the wrong deer can happe specially if you dont pick that one spot on the deer and were more concerned with the horns easy mistake if you ask me. VtBowhunter
Re: Flock shooting deer?!?! Sounds to me like maybe your shot went high and nailed a buck behind the 8 point.
jbeck
Re: Flock shooting deer?!?! The first buck I shot at was 15 yrds. I never looked through the peep. That arrow passed the buck 3 feet behind him. If there was another standing there, I would have connected. I know its embarrising, but I was 17 with real bad buck fever.LOL I can't explain why it happened, but I do know what happened.
Tominator
Re: Flock shooting deer?!?! [ QUOTE ] as he was a 4-point and the others were forked horns [/ QUOTE ] Had this easterner confused there for a bit. East of the Mississippi a fork and a 4 are the same thing. Yeah, I agree. I think you got the wrong deer in your peep. That can happen in the heat of the moment for sure.
