Guest Andrea Posted September 29, 2005 Report Share Posted September 29, 2005 A friend of the family told me this story: He had an uncle that was hunting in South Carolina. His uncle had been sitting in his treestand for a while when he smelled something horrible. Then he heard footsteps. To his amazement a huge buck stumbles through the bushes into the clearing in front of him. He is shocked at what he saw. Attached to the buck's antlers is the upside down HEAD of another buck. Apparently they had fought, locked antlers and the other buck died. THIS buck managed to somehow wrench the head off his opponent and was sporting some new headgear. He said the smell was nauseating. Flies were EVERYWHERE. He shot the deer. I'd give anything to see pictures of that. Matter of fact......it would certainly be more believable if there were some pictures of that!!! That is crazy for sure. The one buck was lucky enough to outlive the other one to the point where the decay of the dead one allowed the live one to work its head free. Like Chris said, one outlived the other, and after the dead one has "softened up", the live one can either pull/twist off the head, or use his front hooves to help cut it off.
