Re: The North American #1 Guns

I'm on it buddy. Starting back to the stand with the xbow next week, shotgun season would have died down now, gonna dump the winter apples out and let em' come in.

By the way, do you think the deer will be able to smell the apples still under the snow, saying they don't find the apples before a snowfall?

Re: The North American #1 Guns

Our second gun season has arrived here in Illinois. I was sick for the first one and didn't hunt much.

I was out this afternoon for the last 45 minutes of the day and passed up a doe. I'll hold out for a buck until Sunday afternoon and then try to whack a doe for 5 team points.

I hope our phantom member gets something this week.

We are in the chase!

Re: The North American #1 Guns

I just went out tonight and put out a huge load of apples, some cobs of corn and a whole jar of peanut butter all over the trees. Looks like they've been hitting the salt lick too, so I moved it to right where the pile is.

The whole way walking into my stand, the snow now shows TONS of tracks and poo, all different sizes of bucks and does, this got me really excited. I'm leaving the stand alone for the rest of the week and hitting it next week.

Re: The North American #1 Guns

WELL guys, this morning I got up at 5:45 and took straight off to the stand. -25 with the windchill, super cold morning, I'm using my crossbow.

Anyways, as it got light, I could see that my apple and corn pile I put out was very disturbed, and I only put it out last thursday!

When I got down, I walked over to the pile, and let me tell you, the entire area is RIPPED up, Theres atleast one HUGE buck track, another small track and a huge doe track.

They have been visiting it atLEAST once a day, I just have to be there to intercept them, I will hunt hard, should I rattle or grunt?

Re: The North American #1 Guns

I plan on hunting some more later in the week. Today I get out at 2PM for two weeks(I am a teacher). I'll have some responsibilities, but not many.

My mother passed away last week on Sunday evening so I spent the week with family rather than hunting.

I plan on spending some time in a tree to soothe my spirit. Right now I am pretty low.

Good luck to all and have a Blessed Christmas.

Re: The North American #1 Guns

Decent Christmas over my way, just went and put apples out today. These darn deer are just everywhere, all around my stand, pooping and eating, the snow tells the story.

I also noticed today, I moved my salt block 3 weeks ago and instead of licking the actual salt block they have licked right through the snow and into the ground wher it previously was...wierd, but I have heard they like the dirt where a salt black has been.

Anyways, my season ends on the 31st so I have this week to connect with the buggers, I believe if I'm out every morning and night, I'll atleast see a doe. Something's going to happen this week.

Re: The North American #1 Guns

Okay team, I'm down to my last weekend to upgrade. I'll be heading out about midnight friday night after I get off work to give it one more shot. A buddy down where I hunt saw a nice 10-12 go across our field Monday night so he's still there. Lets hope I have a little luck left this weekend. grin.gif

Re: The North American #1 Guns

I've had the year from ****.

I had an infected tooth during the rut, a cold during the shotgun season, my Mom was diagnosed with cancer in October and passed away December 11 and yesterday I admitted my wife in the hospital with pneumonia. She'll be in for a few days.

I have until Jan 12. I'll keep getting out when I can.

The time in the tree is therapeutic for me.

Re: The North American #1 Guns

I hear ya LL, sounds like an awful season. But the karma for your mishaps might come back around and you shoot a deer! laugh.gif

Well, I'm sitting in my stand tuesday mornin and I HEAR SOMEONE COUGH? 10 minutes later three%@#$ing guys walk by my stand, they don't look up to the stand but they know its there. It was the neighbours I could see, and they have been intruding on this farmers private property all year. I left a very vulgar and angry LONG note on the windshield of ones jeep. ANYWAYS, I go to follow their tracks in the snow after the morning hunt on wednesday to see where their sitting, THEY HAVE BEEN BAITING WITH CORN, I have an apple pile and their putting piles of corn back there. I'm furious, and the landowner will be contacted soontime.

On a better note, this morning I hear tons of crunching in the snow getting closer, I'm thinking great its those idiots again. Out pops a doe, then another and another. They just ate buds and such for awhile about 60 yards away then left. I can also see deer have just found my new supply of apples. Got 3 more hunts to make it happen.
