Re: Team Ate

Well fellas, looks like I'll be giving it one more shot this weekend. I haven't bowhunted since November 12 and it's been almost 2 weeks since the end of gun season. I'll bowhunt Friday afternoon (probably) and Saturday afternoon and that will probably be the end of my season. I have until January 3 to hunt, but will probably hang it up early this year.

Re: Team Ate

So far I've just taken two does with my muzzleloader. I had a hunt at a wildlife refuge yesterday, but didn't manage to see any bucks which was very unfortunate. Oh well, I have this weekend left of ML season and then I might hunt a few times during late archery. Sure seems like all I'll be getting are does for this season.

Re: Team Ate

I am still debating on whether or not I will be out this weekend to finish the muzzleloader season. It all depends on how cold it is and how much snow there is to walk through. Looks like I won't be contributing any more than 5 points though.

Re: TEAM 8

Well I finally killed a doe on the 14th with only one day left in the season. I made a less than perfect shot on her right before dark at 18 yards. The shot was alittle far back and I watched her walk over the next ridge then waited 20 minutes and went to check my arrow. Not very much blood but it was bright red and some long white hair on the ground where she was shot. I waited 2 hours and went out to track her. The blood trail was very poor because of my shot placement, I tracked her about 100yards most of the time on my hands and knees and lost the trail. After I got back to my house called my dad and he would come over at daylight and we would start from where I left off. We tracked her for four hours, most off the time on our hands and knees when we finally lost the trail. We where just about to give up on ever finding her and there she was about 40yards from where we lost the trail. We tracked her for about 1 mile. I have never had to track a deer that far in my life and thanks to the help of my Dad we found her. My arrow went in and hit one lung and out very low on the other side with some gut hanging out of the exit hole the deer was about broadside when I shot, like I said I made a poor shot and hit her to far back and was lucky to find her. After field dressing her she weighted 140 lbs. What a way to end the season with a very long and difficult tracking job with my Dad on his birthday.
