Missed160
I have had exclusive permission to archery hunt a farm. There is another guy who gun hunts, but the gun season there is only 1 week long, so it really didn't bother me. This spring I talked to the other guy & he said he was going to ask the farmere if he could bow hunt. He asked if I would mind, and said he would hunt the north end of the property. I really can't say "No" as I am just a guest also. So I pulled my stand from the north end. Well the guy called me last night & said he had hung a stand on the south end. I reminded him that he said he was going to stay on the north end. He said he was just talking about gun hunting.. I reminded him I don't gun hunt this farm. He said he didn't think there was a reason he couldn't hunt the south end. It's not a huge farm, and I told him that I would be there whenever the wind allowed me to hunt there & if he was there we would be sitting within a small area.. I also told him that the more an area gets used the fewer deer you will see, Then he told me to "QUIT ACTING LIKE A BABY!!" I stayed as calm as I could & he eventually said he would take his stand from the south end. But I don't look forward to seeing this MORON out there hunting!! Bottom line is, hunting is supossed to be fun/ relaxing & crap like this just ruins it! I plan on talking to the farmer. I was thinking of asking him what it would take to again have sole bow hunting privlages. What would you guys do?
Turkeygirl
Re: Really ticks me off!!! Hmm...not alot you can do. If you know the farmer well and think you can talk to him, maybe bring up the problem, worst he can say is no. The farmland I hunt on, the farmer lets just about everyone on it and our neighbors will send like 10 guys through the woods to push the deer into the fields and then take running shots. It is so unethical but this year the farmer said no rifles are allowed which I'm happy about; it is too dangerous on the property. Good luck. Master_Chief
Re: Really ticks me off!!! I have to agree with Turkeygirl. You are kind of stuck. I know it's now what you want but could you hunt the north end? Just a thought.
rossman
Re: Really ticks me off!!! Just be firm with the other hunter, as to where "you" will be hunting. Don't ask if it is OK, tell him where you will be and when you will be there. be proactive but also respectful....
beagleboy
Re: Really ticks me off!!! It really sucks that he doesn't stick to where he was going to hunt but the farm doesn't belong to either of you. Try to make it work if its a great piece of property before you guys start having problems with each other and before you know it the farmer is going to get involved and not let either of you hunt. Try to work it out this year and then talk to the farmer next year about sole rights.

Tominator
Re: Really ticks me off!!! Not much you can do IMHO. Happens to me too. I usually pull up stakes and head off to a new spot.
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Really ticks me off!!! Not to be the bad apple but a lot of it sounds like greed. I have dealt with greedy hunters before and it's not good. They blame the other guy but really it's just greed...The worst thing hunters can do for the hunting community. I remember an area on Cherry Point,NC I hunted for the first time. I went to the game shack to get my pass for a certain area and just so happened another guy was as well. This guy been hunting there for years and years. He didn't think I should hunt there. I simply told him to pound sand and that he didn't own the area. I found out where he was going to be hunting at and gave him enough room to hunt but I still hunted the area though. It's one thing to purposely take your exact spot but it's another thing if he is just trying to hunt the same area. JMO
JamesVee
Re: Really ticks me off!!! Speaking of greed, I probably would have just told him to remove his stands completely and find somewhere else to hunt.
beagleboy
Re: Really ticks me off!!! I don't know what it is about deer hunting but everybody gets real greedy and competitive this time of year. I hunt with about 4 guys every year and we never fight about where we are going to hunt because the entire property has great potential of harvesting a great buck. I lost several friendships over this greed.

horst
Re: Really ticks me off!!! Dont take this the wrong way but, if the guys not set up right on top of you I think you should get over it.I dont know how big of farm you are hunting but if you both know what your doing, watch your scent, and can keep from tripping over each other theres no reason 2 guys cant bowhunt the same farm. I hunt some farms here where other guys hunt, we actually all use each others stands. Its no big deal and were all sensible enough not get to worked up about it.If i walk in and someones in my stand, i simply go sit in theirs.Nobody gets upset, no ones feelings are hurt, and were not bothering the landowner who was nice enough to let us in with a bunch of petty problems we can work out for ourselves. It also lets everyone hunt something new once inawhile instead of looking at the same chunk of field every night.TSBH has a good point, getting greedy with your spots can take the fun right out of hunting, you start worrying more about what the other guys doing then what your doing yourself and you may as well not even be out there. ilhnter
Re: Really ticks me off!!! I've had something like this happen to me. We share this farm with another hunter, no big deal. He doesn't bow hunt it that much, so it didn't bother us. He told my brother and I that anytime we want to use his stands we could as long as he wasn't there. Ok so last year i was hunting out of one of his stands during bow season and he wasnt there. The stand is on the edge of a well used pasture and bean field. Well for some reason about 415 he drives by the field. (it gets dark at this time around 445). Well he ends up leaving a note on my truck that says " Don't let me ever catch you in one of my stands again." Really pissed me off after he is the one that said we could. So this year just to piss him off and be a bit of a dick i hung a lock on about 40 yards further up the pasture. Now i don't care if he's there or not i'm going to hunt my stand. Missed160
Re: Really ticks me off!!! I think I am going to end up doing like Tominator said and pulling up stakes. But I am not going to do it without a fight.. Maybe in the future I can "LEASE" the bow hunting privlages.. We'll see. Hopefully for now I can get in there, whack my deer & then spend more time chasing pheasants... Just s***s to lose access to a great piece of property because of this guy. Don't want to let him win, but I also don't want the farmer to get stuck in the middle of it..
BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Really ticks me off!!! A lot of time me and my buddy hunt 2 of the stands that ar the closest together helps in scouting deer we can see stuff in between us maybe a deer heading there way that they wouldnt know was coming that way or ect I thihnk you can make this into a positive thing how will you ever find out how the hunting is on the north end of the property if you call him a moron nothing wrong with sharing info.. you should work together ... much more efficeint and much funner that way too. JamesVee
Re: Really ticks me off!!! I dont' understand why you guys are so easy to give up your spots. If you were there first, and got permission first, and if the landowner leaves the hunting rights in your hands then take control of the situation. Not by moving to another area, but by telling the S.O.B. to move on.

beagleboy
Re: Really ticks me off!!! I would have to agree if it is during bow season, but during gun season I disagree. Two angry guys in the woods, two tempers flaring, two guns add up to a bad situation. Several years ago, We had, and still have, sole permission to hunt approx 180 acres of woods near the house so we decided to post the entire property. As we were posting, a man came out of his house, property butted up against his house, and started yelling that he was hunting the property for years and he was not going to stop hunting the property. So we asked him nicely that we do not want any problems, that we don't like hunting with strangers because we like to know where everyone is posted. He got so angry that he went storming into his home. Bow season finally came around, and I had climbed up this tree with my climber approx 300yds behind his house, nice spot but on our property, when I see him walking quietly in the distance, well that just ruined my night. I yell out to him and he came up to my stand with a shotgun in him hand and starts yelling how we disrepected him and that it wasn't fair because he has been hunted for over thirty years without incident. Now I'm getting a little worried because I'm up in the tree in my climber with a BOW and he is on the ground with a GUN and I didn't want to take the quick way down so I tried to difuse him telling him that I was going to get down so we can discuss the matter. When I finally got down, I got in his face and started yelling about pointing a gun at me while I was in the tree and about trespassing. I felt bad about yelling at an old timer but here I was trying to enjoy a nice bowhunt when this guy trespasses with a gun (he was telling me he was turkey hunting with a gun with a rifled barrel) Nice try. After the arguement I thought to myself that things could have really gotten out of hand and tragic. I ended up talking to a game warden and he had a polite conversation with the gentleman and he has not been seen on the property since.
