Growing up in a family of mainly small game hunter never really experinced anything else. First day of rifle deer season and then the 2 saturday after, but thats about it. Now that I am in my late teens I am trying new things, Bowhunting is one of them. Been archery hunting now for about 2 years and still havent gotten anything. For the past two years I have been waiting for a buck, but this year I just want to get a deer. Any advice?

any deer with a bow is a trophy and will really amp your excitement. If you get a chance at a mature doe or a buck take it you will get a rush like never before. Also read or watch as many videos as you can for tips and subtle touched of bowhunting also everyone in here is real helpful so if you have a question shoot!

also if you find a bubble or a major trail do not sit right on it (that is the number 1 mistake I see with my buddies that just started hunting) set up 20 yrds off it you will spook less deer and most won't even know you are there. if you are confident and practice move off 30 yrd they will never see you! good luck

Re: New to the Game

Everyone here is full of advice myself included. If you want to learn more about deer hunting, the best advice is to find a mentor. Pick someone that is willing to teach you the ins and outs of what it takes to bring down a deer. It's not the hardest thing in the world like a lot of people would have you believe but it's also not always easy. Practice with your bow until you can shoot the center out of a bottle cap and then practice some more. It does you no good to have a great mentor but no shooting ability whatsoever. Learn from the videos what you want, but you will never have a season like those guys do without shelling out bigger bucks than they shoot. You don't have to be a Monster Buck killer to fall in love with the sport, just pulling back on a few deer will hook you just as fast. The main thing is to find a a good mentor. I think almost everyone on here has seen or had someone that could have been a mentor but not the best choice because of questionable hunting morals. If a guy isn't willing to teach you to hunt in a way that you feel comfortable , then find another mentor. Hands on is the best way to teach and I know that from exprerience. Good luck and don't be a stranger.
