buckbuster11
After getting blown out of my treestand this morning by a couple of does, I decided to take a little scouting trip. I started walking down an old logging road I have been thinking of hanging a stand off of, and I bet I walked by 8-10 freshly pawed up scrapes over 300 yards. I am almost positive this is the earliest I have seen scraping like that. Anybody else seeing any of this yet?
mo_hunter
Re: Scrapes already I had the same problem with the wind the other day and also went down a old logging road and found some rubs but no scrapes yet.
WHISKEYSWAMP
Re: Scrapes already I've seen several scrapes... mostly territorial scrapes. I'm going to do some scouting tomorrow to check out the rest of the property.
beagleboy
Re: Scrapes already I haven't been out but in NY they are most likely territorial scrapes being made this time of the year.
Hillbilly
Re: Scrapes already Oh yeah couple years ago I was out scouting in early September and found to big scrapes. Found Rubs also on cedar trees that were almost broke in half.

Tony
Re: Scrapes already yes i found 2 scrapes about 2 weeks ago.. these are no boundry scrapes though . they are well off of a field and on a main deer trail.. the easy way to make sure they are scrapes is look for the overhanging branch . if its chewed you can bet your butt its a scrape.. i have heard that early scrapes can be made by bigger bucks . while i havent had much luck with any early scrape action , you can bet they will either dry up or get full blown into action in about 3 weeks... keep checking them to determine if they are still active.. it could be a great place if they get really active.. Jimfrompa
Re: Scrapes already I too was surprised to see the rutting activity so early in NE PA. I saw several Rubs and scrapes that doesn't usally happen here for another two weeks. Not sure why but my friend Tom thinks it is because there are more Bucks around and that makes for more competing for the available doe population. Sounds good to me. PAbowhunter86
Re: Scrapes already I have found many Rubs, and one scape so far. I think they are just marking their territory
Tominator
Re: Scrapes already Tom and I saw a few border scrapes, but we did find one with a little "purpose" to it. It was inside the woods, in a thick part, probably 2 to 3 feet square, lick branch and all, with a snapped off sappling off to the side. Few nice rubs in the area too. The closest deer to me in the morning at about 9:45 was a doe and she was being hounded by a nice 8 pt. I've never seen trailing like that on opening day.
