well folks yesterday morning was on the stand at 5:45....at 6:35 i notice a goast like movement to my right ....i finially (thru the limbs and leaves) see a big bodied deer.... it was 30 yards of me...yes it was a buck. as i reached for my bow the buck walked to 22 yards...my range....i draw my bow and the buck startedto walk...i grunt he stoped and whapppppppppp....a hit but it was high and a little forward of the shoulder....the buck ran about 50 yards and was just standing....ithink did i miss even tho i saw the arrow leave with the buck...he started walking againand stopped behind some limbs hanging down....i thinkthe deer wasbedding then as i lost him in the leaves....iwated until 7:10 and went to my buck.....well the buck wasn't there....found my broadhead covered with hair blood and fat not 6 feet from where i shot him....found myfletched end of my arrow about30 yards from there...and found the rest of my arrow 20 yards farther down the trail....ok he started bleeding good enough to trail but only 100-125 yards out....then no blood no where...my neighbor and i walked the whole woods and the ajoining pasture out in hopes of finding him....this took 4 hours but no sight of him....last night i studied an anatomy map and think i hit him in the hollow spot in the upper front of the chest and the right shoulder....the blood wedid find might have filled a shot glass....what doyou all think ...alive or dead ...while i was sitting and waiting on the stand ihad already had him on the wall....so don't count your chicken's before the hatch.... the buck looked to be a 17in spread and maybe 8 point

Re: never count your chicken\'s before they hatch

I would say this buck could still be alive... sorry to hear you couldn't find them. I had a situation like this last year. I git a deer and had the blood trail, never found the arrow, and eventually the blood trail slowed down. In the spring I foudn the remains though of what I think is the same deer. Check any nearby water areas; wounded deer will go to water. Hearing there was some fat on the arrow makes me think you maybe hit it close to the neck or down low but like you said, it was high...

well, the good news is you got a shot off on a nice buck, i think he will be dead in a couple days, maybe, it all depends, it might not even effect him that much, but if i were you, i would walk around the woods in the next couple days and just look.

That exact thing happened to my buddy 2 years ago he hit the buck high in the cavity right in the same spot you are talking about. We never found the buck that day but the January after we seen that same buck in the field across from the house where we were hunting behind he made it alright...hopefully your buck has the same fortune.
