VermontHunter Posted October 2, 2005 Report Share Posted October 2, 2005 Was out this evening sitting in a nice ground blind waitting on the deer......So far so good right.......Well the deer showed up all right everywhere but where I needed them to be.... I had a group of three nice does to my right and a single doe to my left and both were feeding off in the opposite directions and moving away from me...So I make the decission to low crawl with bow in hand towards the single doe.....before it really gets dark.....well after about 20 min. of cat an mouse I figured I was about 20-25 yrds and was close enough.......so I get to my knee's and draw,,,,OOOps I forgot to turn on my sight lite... and can't see a thing.... so I let down and to my suprise she never moved......so I turn on the light and draw again, this time she does the stare down routine with me......MAN THAT SEEMED TO TAKE FOREVER......She finally quarters away from me and I release........OH NO,,stupid me must have used the dang wrong pin and the arrow sails right over her back....... bye bye big doe...... So not did I only loose the deer because of sheer stupidity I lost a darn nice crested arrow,,,with a expensive Grim Reaper Broadhead..... Live and learn I guess next time Im passing on the stalking bit,,and doing the waitting game......low crawling in the meadow with the FLU isn't the best tatic out there folks..... DUMMY ME !! I should have known better,,,It was getting too dark to pull of a shot like that.....It could have been ugly,,,,and it would have been because my stupidity. You bet darn tooten' I wait next time... Sometimes its a good thing to be pro-active then re-active. Nothing wrong with making things happen instead of just watching them happen. IMHO But then again ya gotta pick the fights you can win and shooting in the last few seconds of the light may not of been wise. Open fields and darkness can squew range perception. JMO. But, I do appreciate your vote of confidence tho..... Went back out this morning,,(got there late) still didn't find that arrow and saw absolutely zero..... No way in heck your gonna find it in shin deep alfalafa and red cover, especially shot at such a flat angle off your knees. Its snaked under all the green stuff and even with reflective wraps, you would not find it. You aint the only one who has "donated" an arrow to the clover/alfalfa field Gods...
