Doe down in Ohio!

I was lucky enough to tag a fat Ohio doe this evening. Opening day in Ohio was hot, both deer action and temperature wise. I saw 17 this morning, Tominator was with me and saw 9. This afternoon, we hung a new stand and I hunted out of it. I only saw 2 and made a great double lung shot on the doe at 21 yards. She went *maybe* 30 yards up the hill, stumbled over a downed tree top and piled up. cool.gif Tominator saw 7 this evening as well, the only deer presenting a shot to him was a button buck. He made the right decision and passed. There is pleanty of time left in the season. wink.gif

Here is a picture of my doe, with the Hoyt taking a much deserved rest......... cool.gif

LMAO--no rubbing required Mike. "I love it when a plan comes together....."

My partner is so humble. Let me tell you the real story....... grin.gif

We hadn't planned on hunting the afternoon, but as it was, I had deer around me all morning. Tom and I planned on meeting at his truck at 10:30, but I was had a doe and a fawn cruise past me at 10:30, so I called Tom and let him know. Anyway, I didn't meet up with Tom until 11:30, and we hung around talking about the morning's sightings, then decided to go get a sandwich down at the local Subway, and before you knew it, we were talking about hanging a stand at the base of this hill that had a ton of sign, and where Tom had his trail cam positioned. We also walked to the top of the hill to try and find a tree for the morning hunts because I've been consistently seeing deer just out of bow range up on top where I've been sitting. Before you knew it, it was 3:00 and I said "you know, we might as well go back and get that stand in Woody's garage and hang it for him and then hunt the evening." Tom agreed, stating that his new lawn could be seeded tomorrow. grin.gif So off we went. We couldn't find the steps for the stand, so we went to another place to pull another stand, came back and hung the new stand.

After we hung it, Tom was drenched in sweat (that dude sweats like a man on death row) and we kind of jokingly talked about who was going to hunt it, now that all the scent and commotion was in the air. Obviously, Tom decided to hunt it.

I got lazy and decided to hunt Tom's other stand that he hunted in the morning. I considered taking my climber up to the base of the hill, but seeing as it was at least 80 to 85 degrees, I opted for the easier walk with only bow in hand. That turned out to be the wrong decision. 6 of the 7 deer I saw were further down the hill, exactly where Tom saw all the deer in the morning.

Anyway, I got down a little early because with all the leaves still on the trees, the woods was really dark, and I couldn't see my pins. I got back to the truck started unloading my gear and said "well........" and Tom didn't respond. As I turned around, I saw Tom had a big grin, and he pointed to a blood spot on his pants.............. cool.gif

I'll tell y'all this too because Tom's so modest, he smoked that deer. I mean, it was one of those shots that you kind of have to giggle about, because that deer didn't have a chance. The picture doesn't do it justice. Perfect double lung, and may have clipped the heart.

That was a good day tater....... grin.gif
