dogdoc Posted October 2, 2005 Report Share Posted October 2, 2005 In 14 years of bowhunting I've never had a close call of falling out of a stand---until today. I was on my hang-on stand and noticed a small branch with a leaf right in my way of a shot on a major trail. I was on this stand a month ago and don't remember this little twig but it was just bugging the heck out of me. So I was leaning from my stand and grabbed the limb that the twig with the leaf was attached to---as I was pulling the limb to get the twig the limb broke and the back momentum thru me backwards---thank you SOP harness---I had the attachment up high enough the harness stopped me from falling off the stand---me feet actually never left the stand but without that harness on I would have been one hurting or dead dude. I have mine set, so that when I'm sitting, if i lean forward, there is pressure on the harness. That way I know if I do fall, I won't fall below the treestand. It is in all of our interests to be safe when hunting from trees! Don't skimp on the important stuff. I wear a SOP myself and would not be without it. I am glad that the device did what it was intended to do, Todd. To think that not to many years ago your wife could possibly have been a widow had you had that happen wearing only a "safety belt." Dogdoc posted a link on another forum showing a real life test with the SOP harness, and the Hunters Safety System vest. After watching the video, I know I made the right decision by using the SOP.
