I am beginnign to think I really ticked the big guy upstairs off somehow!!all year my luck has been crappy,I have passed up deer no sane person should and had close calls but no shots, last weekend I had both a B&C whitetail and mule deer in 20 some yards but no shots were available with my bow[ya B&C not P&Y]yesterday was fist day od ML so I sighted it in and got all ready to head out, gun was shootign great out to 100 yards,I went to my spot were the big mule was,sat on a hill and glassed and fog and drizzle came in I got back to the truck, the gun on the outside was damp but I had the end and the hammer covered with a plastic bag,I threw the cap away just incase it got wet,on my way out I spotted a good lookign whitetail on a ridge 800 yards away, I parked on a knoll and glassed and watched him bed down in a grass rivine,[it was nice out by now sun was coming threw]I decided if I coudl get him on vidio I would take him,I grabbed the camera, bypod Ml, and new caps from the dry can just in case, the wind was really up and in my favor and the grass was wet so nice stalking, I managed to get within 50 yards of were I thought he was but could not see him, I backed off and went abotu another 20 yards and I peeked in and there he was bedded 15 yards away in the grass, all I could see was his body shape and antlers,if he looked my way i could see his face a bit throught the tall grass,I set up the camera on the bypod and started to run it,I then looked at the deer for abotu 5 minutestrying to decide if I wanted him,I figured him to be in the low 150's,I then said to myself I have been huntign for over a month missing only 1 night and passign up monster mules I better not pass up a nice whitetail with a ml,I grunted 2 times to try to get him to standno luck I tried to throw a small stone close but it wasso windy he did not hear it,I waited a bit then deicded a 49 cal ball at 15 yards will easilly clear a few strands of grass,I stood up he still had no idea I was there,I pulled the hammer back and set the bead right behind his front leg bedded,I pulled the trigger and click----------- just as I was going to let off boom!! this is what I seen flying in the air,

I was sick as he ran off, he still had about 7 " of beam left includign a 6-7" brow tine,he is a solid 160 class animal with a 20" spread,I think the powder in the nipple must of got damp and took a while to go off, on the vidio I can count slow to 5 from the time I hear the hammer till it went off,I was just goignt o put another cap on when it went off, I have no idea why my luck has been so bad this last while, just seems like everything Ido is screwedup, went to a poker tournylast night [free winner at end of 8 weeks get a free trip in north america] played for 2 hours with nothing [not even any high cards] then got a A-2 suited and with low stack decided to go all in on the flop came 2 spades, think i could get another one no way, I was out!!

ANyone got a extra rabbits foot lol!!!! just remember the deck bords are 6:wide it gives you a idea why i am sick right now!!the way a buddy told me was right, he siad I prob saved the deers life and next year he will be a boonie,I doubt if anyone will shoot him now as a 1 racked but it bothers me maybe he will get hurt ina fight now!!

Re: bad luck[again]

Like others said, at least the buck and you were not injured.

Insead of getting bummed out, think of it this way.

This is what hunting stories and memories are made of. Just think how much you'll laugh telling this story years down the road to your buddies or kids or even grandkids. Only a small percentage of the successes make up the hunting stories at camp. The best stories are the failures and other odd things that you can laugh at.

Now pick your chin up and go hunting again. Obviously you have some good whitetails and mulies running around. Go get one of them and post us some pictures.

Re: bad luck[again]

Better luck next time! But don't feel too bad, I know a gut that did the same thing 3 or 4 years ago. He too was mad, but now its just another deer camp joke. I also know I guy that shot a buck, then when he went to recover it, he noticed that it had a bright orange collar on. Yeah, it was somebody's lost pet. Oh well, they all taste the same,LOL!!!
