huntinsonovagun
Re: #3 the streak lives Now, there's nothing wrong with it, but I'd like to encourage you to pass on the younger deer and wait for the older, mature deer, since it is so easy to kill the younger ones (as you have experienced). Nothing wrong with taking the little ones, but try passin them up!!! They get BIGGER!!!

I'm sure he knows small deer get bigger, but it's his choice on which one he wants to harvest. I think its our job to congrat him on a fine deer and not to tell him which to shoot. Nice deer Brain! [/ QUOTE ] I used to have the same attitude, until I got to thinking....if I shoot at them, I KNOW they are going to die. If I pass on them, they at least have a CHANCE to get bigger. Looks like the neighbors aren't the only ones to shoot anything that moves. Now, with that said, I'm not bashing you at all!!! I have shot my fair of young bucks.....2 young ones was enough for me. I like just watching them. And congratulations on all of your bowkills!! Not many bowhunters will ever harvest a deer with a bow.
brain
Re: #3 the streak lives Thank you very much.for the past several years i let smaller deer walk only to see them gunned down on the next farm.i had a big bodied but young 6 pointer under me several times last year and i let him go then during gun season i heard from a friend that a guy shot him on the next farm and he told my friend "he had a small rack but the meat was good" after watching him grow for a year it made me sad because you could tell he was going to grow real big.if you hunt on a property with neighbors who dont practice deer management you are pretty much wasting your time. brain
Re: #3 the streak lives i never shot a deer that weighed under 100 lbs which i would consider small here in delaware.and if my neighbor shot 1 small deer and i didnt my family would have an empty freezer. MCH
Re: #3 the streak lives I'm gonna go ahead and reply since I read your post before it was deleted. I do not believe that huntin'ofagun intended his comments to start this debate. However, this thread should be about congratulating you on your successful harvests not on what size of deer you harvest. So, for the fact that you've harvested 3 deer on 3 consecutive hunts to start TWO seasons, I say congratulations. That is a great streak you have going. Hope you extend it next year. Guest lostiniowa
Re: #3 the streak lives I think (although I do not practice it) that vertually every deer killed with a bow is a trophy.
dogdoc
Re: #3 the streak lives brain---why did you delete your post? congrats on whatever type of deer you shot. I really don't think Ryan meant to start a debate or offend you but the "shoot or not shoot" should be a different thread---this thread should be congratulating you on a successful hunt! good job and if you had a pic posted---post it again so we can share in your success! todd
