Took a doe, early season, NY, last years tag!!!!

In NY, we have and "early" 4 day season, which we can use any leftover archery tags from last year. I went to the northern tier of NY last friday to see if I could fill one of my tags from last year. Me and some friends have a land lease there. I had an either sex tag left over and needed some meat for the freezer.

But, the problem is, I always said I would never kill a doe if she had youngens. Well, I was wrong. A big doe and two of her youngens came into an apple tree, where I placed a stand. The doe crassed a trail, at 37 yards, and I put an arrow right through her boiler room. She ran 100 yards andI heard her crash. So 1 more deer for the Rossman.

Was this a bad thing to do? To kill a doe that has it's young with it stilll. They did not have spots on them and were feeding and drinking on their own.

Anyways, at leastmy family and I will be eating good. I did not take any pics, sorry. You guys have seen planty of does!!!!

Has any one else heard about this 4 day season. Wondering who else in NY knows about this program? I live in NY and never heard about it. How about some info?

There's not an actual "early season". It's just what my friends and I call it. Northern tier archery season is From Sept 27th - Oct 20. The time from Sept 27th- Sept 30th, you can use the previous years tags. Because your hunting liscense and tage are valid from Oct 1st - Sept 30th for any given year.

For example, you buy an archery liscense this year, an 05/06 liscense. That liscense is valid from Oct 1st of this year to Sept 30th of next. So if you do not fill your tags this fall, you can use them in the northern tier, next sept 27th - sept 30th. It's kind of like a loop hole that many hunters are not aware of. And is perfectly legal.

Cantact the DEC for more info.

If you do not understand and need more help on this issue, don't hesitate to ask--Rossman
