AJ
Hey Hangunnr, I am going to try the Encore handgun in muzzleloader version. I have been thinking about getting one for a while and I finally saw a good deal on a rifle length ML barrel. It will be cut down to 15-16" and have fiber optic sights installed or I may just use a handgun scope or red dot for now. Should be a fun toy. hangunnr
Re: New Project I sure like my .50 cal barrel. I went ahead and took the scope off and installed the fiber optic sights. I want to cut down a .45 cal Encore ML barrel to pistol length. hangunnr

AJ
Re: New Project I just finished some time with a hacksaw and the lathe. The gun will be tested tomorrow to see how it does. I threw a 2x Leupy that was laying around on it for some range time. I still have to drill and tap the front sight area. I may shorten the forend a bit also. Not sure. I am still thinking about using a red dot sight on it. We'll see how the scope works first.
AJ
Re: New Project I took the thing to the range today and I learned a few things. 1. It does not like Pyrodex and Powerbelts. 2. It can tolerate T7 3f and Powerbelts at times. 3. It likes to be shot dirty. It got 1" groups at 50 yards when I could barely seat the bullet. 3. Its the most inconsistant piece of crap when its clean. It shoots 12" groups at 50 yards until it gets some fouling built up. 4. Outers Foaming Bore Cleaner is great stuff. hangunnr
Re: New Project My gun runs best with 60gr by volume 3F T7 under a T/C mag sabot and a 240gr XTP. Mine will shoot a clean barrel the same as a fouled one. I haven't been able to get Powerbelts to shoot out of any of my guns..... hangunnr
AJ
Re: New Project [ QUOTE ] I haven't been able to get Powerbelts to shoot out of any of my guns..... hangunnr [/ QUOTE ] I hear ya Buddy. I have shot them in 4 guns now and the results have been dismal. I ordered Cecil's primer contraption that uses small pistol primers in 209 adapters. I will see how they work with a variety of different bullets next week.

[/ QUOTE ] I may order some of those myself. I'm kinda curious about them too. Please post up when you get them wrung out. I've toyed with ordering one of his .25acp breech plugs but don't see how much they could improve on the accuracy i'm already getting..... hangunnr
AJ
Re: New Project I went back to the range with that thing. I tried the powerbelts, 777, and the small pistol primer and it was similar to before. I cleaned the barrel and switched to the XTP bullets/sabots and it made a big difference. I was shooting 100 gr of loose 777 with the 250 gr XTP in a long petaled black sabot and it was definately better. I was getting 2" groups at 50 yards. I dropped the powder to 80 gr and the groups dropped to 1.25" at 50 yards. I shot some at 100 yards and they were about 3" and the center of the group was about 4.5" low. I will stick to 50 yards with this gun. Much better. I let my buddy shoot it and he shot a 1.5" group at 50 yards with it. He was tickled and grinning ear to ear with that. He's not very good with handguns. The small pistol primer adapter makes a world of difference with the crud ring. Cleaning is much easier and I don't see any unexplained flyers like I did before. hangunnr
Re: New Project Did you chrono your loads? I've never gone above 70gr so I'm curious as to what you're getting with 80. Are you still using 3F? hangunnr
AJ
Re: New Project Nope, I did not hook up the chronograph. I was using 3F 777. The 80 gr loads kicked notibly less than the 100 gr loads.

AJ
Re: New Project Here ya go: The shiny portion of the barrel at the end of the forend is where I had the steady rest holding the barrel in the lathe while I cut a new crown. I just ordered a .25 ACP breech plug from Cecil and some Dead Centers I am going to try out.

hangunnr
Re: New Project I like the look of the full size forestock. The extra weight can't hurt either. What did you come up with for a ram rod retainer? hangunnr

AJ
Re: New Project [ QUOTE ] What did you come up with for a ram rod retainer? [/ QUOTE ] yeah, I do not care for the short steep angled pistol forend. The full length is much more forgiving on the bench. I can also use a short bipod if I feel like it. As for the ramrod retainer, I can mount the original on the barrel. I really don't see a need for it. I have shot the gun with it as is and it works very well. The rod is held in by the dual pillars and it does the job. I usually leave it in the bandoleer holster and pull it out when needed.
