Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Help with Yote Hunting [ QUOTE ] questions 1. what kind of gun do you use i can use a 30 30 a couple of 06's and sum shotguns which one would you use oh and sum 22's [/ QUOTE ] A. Any gun will kill one if it's close enough. Traditionally, most poeple use a centerfire 22 like a 223 or 22-250. I personally have a 223 and a 220 Swift. [ QUOTE ] 2. how would you go about getting them to come in would you hunt an open power line most of it is all swamp land [/ QUOTE ] A. Get them close by calling either with a mouth blown call or an electronic (recorded) call. I would think a more open area would be best. If it's really thick, consider using a shotgun with magnum buckshot loads. [ QUOTE ] 3. what is the best time to hunt if you say night then how would you go about seeing them with out spooking them [/ QUOTE ] A. Anytime. At night use a red lense spotlight and don't hit them full in the face until you're ready to shoot. [ QUOTE ] 4. what do you do with the yote after you kill him i would like to get the skin of a couple tanned but like what do you do with the meat i dont think i could eat it [/ QUOTE ] A. You can get a skinning video from most online sources. If you eat one, you're either a lot hungrier or a lot tuffer than I am... [ QUOTE ] 5. this one is for anyone in Michigan what kind of permit do you need to hunt them [/ QUOTE ] A. Don't know. Never hunted in Michigan. jdickey
Re: Help with Yote Hunting Can't add much to what Texan Til I Die has already listed! The use of a call, either blowing or electronic, is usually the best way to draw in coyotes (and other varmints). The DISTRESSED PUPPY CALL will get them there real quick. Check out Knight & Hale's packet with a howler and a bellows puppy call that is realatively inexpensive. The Puppy Call is very easy to use. I made an electronic caller with a portable CD player and a Radio Shack MUSICAL POWER HORN. The e-callers will "not run out of air" therefore can last longer! The choice of guns - use the smaller caliber if you want to save the pelts.... otherwise, use whatever is your choice! You can also try this link to a predator hunters chat board for some more tips... TEXAS PREDATOR POSSE GOOD LUCK...huntin those yotes is addicting!
