how to sight in a bow

OK, I'm assuming you want the standard set up: 20, 30, 40.

To start, I'd set your pins fairly high and stand back at 10 yards. If possible, have someone look from the side to see if you'll hit the target. They can usually tell right away.

Once you get close to the spot you're aiming at, step back to 20 and fine tune that same pin for 20.

The rest is easy. Just drop the next pin a little below the 20 and step back to your desired distance. And repeat.

Now, I haven't even touched on tuning your bow...that's a whole different ballgame.

Best bet is to go to a pro shop and have someone work with you on it and explain everything about it. Guys on here can tell you but it makes it so much nicer in person to be able show you the basics and how to adjust your sight, check your centershot, nock point, what arrow to shoot, proper drawlength, etc.

A pro shop would be willing to do this and this information will help you a great deal.

Glad to see you get into hunting, especially bowhunting, its an addiction and you have come to the right spot to learn.

I'm fairly new to shooting a bow too. The first post is a great start. What I found helped me a lot was calling my shots. Be honest and after you release and follow through, say out loud where you thougt you hit. this will help you know what shits miss because of not being sighted in and what was a bad shot. Also, before you start to "sight in", just shoot, making sure you do everything the exact same.
