AaronS
Re: How many people on here practice QDM? I do. I started hunting a small (46 acres) piece of property in '98. Deer sightings were decent. In '01 I planted 3 acres of Antler King Trophy Blend clover, and my sightings doubled that year. In '03 I planted an acre of Alfarack and the deer have flocked to it. The clover is on the downhill slide, so in the next year or two when I can find the money and time it will be replanted, but not necessarily with the same thing. I have a few different ideas for it. In the time I've hunted it we've restricted buck harvest to nothing smaller than 8 pts and 16" wide. In that time we've killed one big 8, a 10, and an 11 ptr. Other big bucks have been seen, and many smaller bucks with good potential have been passed. We'll see what this year brings.

buckee
Re: How many people on here practice QDM? My 2 hunting buddies and myself try the best we can. Hard to do on land that borders other hunting property, but we do it anyway, for our own piece of mind.

TreeStandBowHunter
Re: How many people on here practice QDM? I try to but sometimes my time isin't all that much. Being in the military, I only get home for a few days usually to hunt so I don't have much time for scouting and what not. Usually at home, I take whatever walks by because I want the meat. My local area which is currently Eastern Mass, I will try the best I can. This is the first year hunting up here and I have not been impressed with what I have seen so far. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: How many people on here practice QDM? Going into our 5th year on a 7000 acre low fence ranch that is intensively managed. The ranch had been grossly overhunted prior to our take over and there were very few deer the first season. We added 6 free choice protein feeders and now go through about 7 to 8 tons of feed a year. Plus we feed another 5 or 6 tons of corn between Sep and Mar. We've also got about 600 acres that is planted each year in winter wheat. We shoot every spike we see, regardless of age class, plus we try to take off most of the 2.5 yo's that aren't at least 8 points and the 3.5 yo's that aren't at least 10 points. The results have been phenominal. Our buck/doe ratio is right at 1 to 1. We've got a lot more deer and a lot more bucks. It's typical to see 5 or 6 different bucks each time we go into the field. Most of them 8 points or better. So far, the only "big" deer that are showing up are 140 class 10 points, but that should improve as time goes on. We've been letting all of those bucks walk. Hillbilly
Re: How many people on here practice QDM? I'm starting to get into the QDM. I need to harvest more does to get my buck/doe ratio down. When I get my own land I will plant Hamanna (SP?) mix and probably Imperial White Tail Insitute Clover out. I would like to live and hunt near river bottoms. For some reason I love to hunt them, but yes I'm starting to practice QDM and practice it in the near future on my new land. huntinsonovagun
Re: How many people on here practice QDM? I don't know that I would say I practic "QDM," but I do pass on smaller deer, even on the public land I hunt. No places to plant plots, and I try to take as many does off as I can. I figure if I can kill at least 1 doe for every buck I've shot (all on mostly public land) I am doing my part. Just wish others would try to do at least that.... dogdoc
Re: How many people on here practice QDM? There are a lot of apects associated with true QDM--I try my best. Food plot development, doe harvests, and letting the young bucks walk is what I feel is the most important aspect of deer management. I enjoy seeing large bucks and if you don't let the little ones walk you're not going to see many big ones. todd
bfletch7441
Re: How many people on here practice QDM? I've alway's tried to do my part, and now that I've got 300 acres to manage, I'll be doing everything possible to make it a higher quality hunting experience out there. wtnhunt
Re: How many people on here practice QDM? We have tried to, but are just not seeing the results paying off. Too many other properties nearby with too many people who are shooting everything they see.
Thayer
Re: How many people on here practice QDM? wtnhunt, have you been to any of the QDM meetings in Tenn? There are some really good clubs in Tenn, Bryan Kinkel is very active in the one around Nashville. If you visit, tndeer.com you could probably find a branch near you. I know what you are saying about everyone around you shooting everything....I wonder if you posted some of those cam pics at a local gas station if some of you neighbors would start asking questions???
