tallone
I have a weatherby 270 mag and I'm going on a elk hunt next year. Would the 140 grain be good enough and which would be better the nosler partition or tha ballistic tip? I currently shoot the partitions but the balliastic tips would be a more accurate round? kooter
Re: 270 mag for elk I think you have enough gun to take down an elk. I would shoot the partitions though. would hold up better on an elk i think
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: 270 mag for elk I agree. Unless there's a noticable difference in accuracy, go with the heavier, more solidly built bullet.
jdickey
Re: 270 mag for elk TALLONE.... I have been shooting the HORNADY 140 GR. LIGHT MAGNUM for the past 5 years, and feel that it is an awesome bullet. However, I've only hunted whitetail with that bullet. Outstanding ballistices for200 yards... HORNADY 140 GR. tallone
Re: 270 mag for elk I don't know if I can get that in a weatherby round. It's hard enough getting my ammo as it is. From what I'm hearing I should be fine with the partitions. Thanks for the replys
AJ
Re: 270 mag for elk I would stick with the Partition. The faster the cartridge, the better your bullet has to be. Elk are fairly large critters and you need to penetrate as deep as possible. The cartridge is definately up to the job, but feed it the correct bullet for the occasion for best performance. Even if BT bullets give you 1/2" groups and the partitions give you 1.5" groups, the Partition is still a better choice.
stevebeilgard
Re: 270 mag for elk 140 is plenty of slug. you have a great gun for the job. your priority is bullet placemet. hit it right, and you get your elk. hit it wrong..... Guest Xen
Re: 270 mag for elk i use the 160 grain partitions in a 7mm mag. it has no problem knocking them down when you hit 'em for the .270, i'd suggest going to the 150 grain if you can get them - elk are big and you'll not be sorry you had a little extra knock-down power. i'm sure the 140 will get the job done if that's what you already have. tallone
Re: 270 mag for elk Thanks, I'll be sticking to what I have then (partitions). I was thinking about moving up to the 150 grain. The gun has plenty of power to get the job done so the 150 should only help. Two dogs, I love my weatherby and it's Montana where I'll be hunting if everything works out. somewhere out of Billings.
