Re: Mourning lights....

I wear a head light most of the time when entering or leaving a stand. There is 3 or 4 different settings on it, that let me control how brighth the beam is, and I normally have it just bright enough that I can barely see my trail. AS far as I know, it hasn't affected my hunting in any way

Re: Mourning lights....

I use a light. If you're really afraid of spooking deer, use a green light or red light.

To be honest, if a deer is within 100 yards of my stand or on my way to the stand, I'm afraid I'm going to spook that deer, and I don't care what color light you carry, that deer is going to spook.

Re: Mourning lights....

I honestly quit trying to get into a stand before daylight.Ill sit in the truck and wait for to get just light enough to see.

This way Im not crashing around in the dark tripping over brush and trying to find a stand.Im not shining a light around in the woods spooking things. And I see just as many deer as I used to trying to sneak in before daylight, and a lotta mornings I see more deer then i used to.

Re: Mourning lights....

Your movement and noise is what spooks them. The light they have no clue about but it will catch there eye.

They just stand a stare at the light until you get to close from what I have seen. I have walked right at deer after legal light to see how close I could get. 12 yards is my best so far. LOL

Kinda like a deer in headlights thing...

If its a matter of spooking deer or getting a stick in your eye or twisted ankle. Id opt for a light if its too dark.

Re: Mourning lights....

When i first read the title i thought this was going to be about mourning the death of something. In the morning I usually use a flashlight only when necessary like setting up a climber or something. I usually hunt familar areas so i know my way in pretty well
