KANSAN
Okay guys ... how many of you have found sheds off of bucks you eventually took, or shot a buck and then found a shed from a previous year after you killed him? Let's get a good off-season discussion going here to fire this room up a bit!!!

Squirrelhunter91
Re: Sheds off harvested bucks? My dad did, back in 2001. We found both 4pt sheds on the same summer day, both within 200 yards of eachother. Then later that fall, my dad shot a nice 3.5 year old 8pt. Once he got mounted and he get the head back, we picked up the sheds and compared them to the rack. Just about an exact match. One of his tines was shortened, but what was a nub on the shed antlers, became another tine on the actual deeer.
deershed
Re: Sheds off harvested bucks? My bow kill last year I found one shed off the same buck the Spring before.I wish I'd have found the other side too.Would have been nice to see what the 5" kicker off the g-2 looked like the year before I took him. SaskMan
Re: Sheds off harvested bucks? Jody, the non typical that I shot in 2004 had been kind enough to leave me 4 sheds, one set and 2 singles. The one I shot the other day left me a set 2 winters ago, nothing last year, never knew he was alive and well until he wasn't.

Guest TheDanishDanger
Re: Sheds off harvested bucks? we did just this year, but it was kinda backwards, it was strange. My brother took a nine buck earlier last year. We go shed hunting later in the year when we think their all off round december. We then find a shed that looks a lot like my brothers deer, just smaller. We put it up too his mount, and the shed matched exactly with the mount, only smaller in size. It was wild, so it was kinda backwards but whatever works
KANSAN
Re: Sheds off harvested bucks? Believe it or not, I've managed to find sheds from four of the bucks I've harvested, including my big buck from 1995. I've been really lucky up to this point (and I hope it continues!!!) Guest LDB
Re: Sheds off harvested bucks? I shot this buck in 2002. I have sheds from him from the prior two years. Neither were picked up by me. CLB picked up one while shed hunting with me, and I recognized it immediately and threatened to cry if he didn't give it to me. The other one was picked up by a local area farmer.

toddyboman
Re: Sheds off harvested bucks? Got this picture of this buck Never was able to harvest him. However my mother and I always shed hunt, last year we did a lot. And we each found one of his shed to make the set. They was about 50 yards apart out in a field. It was one of her first sheds to find and she was so excited, it was an awesome day.

Guest LDB
Re: Sheds off harvested bucks? These aren't off harvested bucks, BUT ... Here's the set from a buck that Saskbucks was hunting in 2004 with a muzzleloader. The buck got lucky when he decided to bed down just before the end of legal hunting time. The buck had been grazing his way over to Saskbucks but bedded down just out of range. This is the left side off the muley buck I missed last year. As it laid: When it was still attached to the deer's head: Me holding it:

Mach1
Re: Sheds off harvested bucks? My bow buck from 2000, my cousin's husband found one side of it during that year's gun season less than 100 yds from where I shot it. This was after I had taken it. My brother and I found the set of one buck 2 years (sets from 00 & 01) in a row and were hoping to get him, but a neighbor got him during gun season a couple years ago. We looked back in our collection, and had one side from the buck when he was a 2 1/2 yr old. The sets we found were from his 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 years. His 5 1/2 yr set was a main 8 with matching stickers off both G2s. Scored low 150s then with a modest spread. His 6 1/2 yr rack, when he was taken, was a main 8, but only scored in the mid 140s. He had lost mass in that year. Wish I had pics of them.
