Guest asilvia68
I am not sure if this was posted but wanted to see what the take is. I use Copenhagen and enjoy it while out hunting. Will the scent from it as a breath sppok deer or does it really matter? I put enough other scent around/on me that I never thought about it before. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Tominator
Re: Snuff or chew....Bad when hunting? The he suffered for about two months before finally losing the battle. He was 45. Never saw any of his children get married and only 1 of them graduate. Something to think about anyway. TreeStandBowHunter
Re: Snuff or chew....Bad when hunting? Well here is my 02. I am a "Former chewer"...bigtime too. I dipped and chewed for almost 17 years...yeah, I started young but AM GLAD AS HECK that I stopped. I feel better about my life. I have shot plenty of deer with a dip in my mouth. I have had deer lick my spit already. Answers to your question will be mostly based off of the hate for tobbacco in which I can say, I hate it now and thats why I stopped. But I wanted to give you an answer based off my expeirence(sp) rather than my like/dislike for tobbacco users So to answer your question, based off of my expierence with deer licking my spit and shooting deer with dip in my mouth, I would say no. I am sure that it smells funny to them but from what I seen, I don't think it scares them away so to speak
Stinger-Hunter
Re: Snuff or chew....Bad when hunting? I don't think it spooks them either - I only dip during hunting season (Pavlovs dog) I've never seen a deer get spooked by it - my own scent yes. I've seen so many deer gather around tower stands that had spit all around them its ridiculous.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: Snuff or chew....Bad when hunting? Funny story: On the way to some public ground in Virginia around 1999 my friend and I stopped to get something to eat and drink. As we were finishing the last 30 minute drive, I put a dip in and was using my empty cup to spit in. My buddy wasn't quite finished with his drink, but asked if I was done with mine so I handed him my cup to spit in. He starts coughing and gagging and almost vomiting. I just started laughing cause he said he swallowed some of his dip. I laughed and laughed. 2 minutes later, the same thing happened again. He turns the dome light on and asks "Are you spitting in this?" "Yes?! what do you think I'm doing" He was trying to eat the ice out of my drink but kept swallowing my dip spit and choking on it. LOL I still laugh about that every time I think about it. I laughed so hard and he was laughing and choking and spitting for 5 minutes. Shaun_300
Re: Snuff or chew....Bad when hunting? I don't think it will affect your hunting, definetly more your health! Some of my family members like the snuff in hunting season. Haven't saw a deer turn away because of the scent.

Ohiobucks
Re: Snuff or chew....Bad when hunting? To each their own. If someone wants to dip snuff, chew tobacco, smoke, drink, whatever, it's their choice. It gives warnings right on the can, if someone wants to use it knowing the bad it can cause, so be it. JMO, but I tend to voice my opinion too much sometimes........ As for the question at hand, I don't know if it affects deer or not. I know guys who smoke while deer hunting and still shoot deer. rossman
Re: Snuff or chew....Bad when hunting? I don't think he asked for the side affects from chewing. He asked if chewing in a treestand will spook deer. This is not webMD.com!!!!! Everybody and their mother knows chewing tabacco can and will give you mouth diseases. So let's just answer the question!!!!!! Yes, I used to chew in my stand. Then my fiance at the time asked why I would go through all the trouble to eliminate my scent, then ruin it all and put a chew in my mouth. She made a very good point. Cope' and all other chew has a very strong smell. The deer will smell it. Leave the chew in the truck and only use it to and from your hunting area. If you have to use it in your stand. Spit in a bottle, never spit on the ground. The scent will linger!! It could mean the difference of getting the opportunity at a buck of a lifetime. Plus, the less time you have a chew in your mouth the better off you are. Rossman
Stinger-Hunter
Re: Snuff or chew....Bad when hunting? Good Call Rossman. I got busted this weekend because I was dipping, I think. I guess Indiana deer pay more attention to scent than Minnesota deer, cause I've never had it affect me in MN, but Indiana, boy those deer certainly rely on their noses.
