Smitteken
I took off work early yesterday, made it home went through the scent free ritual and was in the stand by 2:30. Sweating nonetheless because I had about a 3/4 mile walk. I settled in a new stand that I put up about a month ago for the first time. The wind was howlin, as I began to wonder how good of an idea this was. I was getting completly bored and chilled to the bone by about 4:00. At 5 I saw a field mouse milling around my stand and I thought this is going to like the time I saw a box turtle and no deer. 5:30 nothin. I said a prayer "God please just let me see some brown, at least to get my heart pumping." 2 minutes later, about 6:00 I heard a ruckus looked up and saw two tails busting through an over grown pasture the other way. They were directly up wind of me and the wind was blowing 15-20 mph there is no way they could have smelled me or seen me. So I grabbed my bow just in case. Then I saw them turn come back through the pasture and come to my left running. I drew. As the first one hit the lane "Maaaa". They didn't even hear. I guess they went about 80 yards down the line, and just as I was catching breath, I heard them coming back. I drew, once again "Maaaa" louder as the first and smaller doe hit the lane. This stopped momma perfectly in it. I was drawn and dead on the vitals, I sent the Muzzy tipped GT 7595. WHACK! She curled up and busted up into the old pasture. The last I saw was about 80 yds and still saw two rear ends. It went silent. So I figured they stopped there. I turned to look for my arrow. I could see it 20 yards out covered in red. Yes! I hit er good. CRASH. I turned to the sound and saw a tail bust through the creek and into a field where I lost sight. I was hoping it was the smaller of the two and mom was belly up in the pasture. I called a friend and dispatched him. I got down picked up my arrow and look 15 yds ahead and had great blood. SWEET. After 15 minutes I head to the field where the last deer ran through. All I see is small tracks, then I see the smaller one milling about the field. Awesome if mom were ok, the little guy would be no where to be seen. I waited until it started to get dark and my friend hadn't made yet. So I eased into the area where I last saw here and found a little blood but it was drying up. I was having second thoughts and praying she was down. Then I saw grey amidst the briars and cypress. YES! There she lay, about 100 yds from the point of impact, double lunger. I dropped to one knee said a prayer of thanks, then got out my knife. Thanks to all of the advice and well wishes from everyone on this board in the last few months. BuckNrut
Re: Paydirt Nice job Smitteken, Compared to last year it seems a lot of RTers are reproting "doe kills" rather than "hit but couldn't find" posts. Hopefully this will dispell the myth of bowhunters being strictly "trophy hunters".
