Re: Winchester 1300 12gauge.

My all-around upland gun for the last 6 or 7 years has been my Benelli Montefeltro in 20 gauge. It's light (6.75 lbs, I think), and has a 3" chamber. I use it for doves (light target loads of 7.5 or 8's), and rabbit (light 7.5's or 6's) and pheasant (heavy #6 or on late season birds, I might go to a 3" #4 magnums)

Personally, 12 gauges are a little too much for me, I just think it's overkill. That's just personal preference on my part because I know you can always just cut back on your load choices and do just as well, if not better than the smaller gauges.

You might want to try toting a lighter gun around and see what you prefer.

Well, i use the 1400, in 12ga, which is the same gun, only a semi-auto. It is a bit on the heavy side, but this baby is like an extension of my arm, quail don't stand a chance!! If I was to buy another gun, it would be a 20ga most likely, think the 12ga is just a bit to big for quail.

It is in the middle as far as weight goes for a pump shotgun due to the alloy receiver.

I have a 1200 (same as 1300, but a little older) and it weighs less than my 870's and BPS.

I think it goes around 7.25 pounds the others go from 7.5 to 8 pounds.

I guess it depends on what you consider heavy if it is too heavy, and everyone has thier own idea. My 1200 doesn't bother me to carry around a lot.

As far as better... in my opinion, maybe fancier would be more appropriate than better as the 1300 is not neccessarily fancy, but they are decent reliable shotguns.
