Re: Do you wear orange?

I wear it because it is the law and I think it is a good idea. That being said:

One thing I noticed missing from this thread is that for red/green colorblind people (one in ten white males) orange isn't a very good color. I should know, I'm r/g colorblind and a better color for me to see would be canary yellow. It really stands out for me where as I really have to search for hunter orange.

Re: Do you wear orange?

i wear it all the time during gun season....just a cheap $2 very thin orange vest and sometimes an orange hat...if its not required and you choose not to wear it...then thats your decision....if it is required and you choose not to wear it...then don't be whining when you get shot by some idiot who doesn't know the difference between a deer and a human or doesn't know to identify what he is aiming at. that is one of the main reasons i choose to stay out of public land during gun season...#1. there are som many people that hunt public land here in michgan it is rediculous, and #2 there are so many irresponsible people out there that shouldn't have guns in the first place.

During the gun, always an orange vest, whether in the tree or walking to it. To many idiots, or as I call them weekend warriors. People who drive an hour from the big city and think its the wild, wild west. There are also people who are uneducated and inexperienced when it comes to safety.

I wear orange any time guns are in the woods, rife or ml. here in tn you do good to see 100 yds through the trees. however, a bullet can travel a lot farther than that. If you dont see someone in orange, then you dont know not to shoot. I have done some crazy things do get a deer, little trees, crazy groundblinds, bogus drive you name it but I would never do something that raised the risk of me getting killed, and increased the risk of someone else being apart of an accident that affected tham for the rest of their lives all because i wanted to hide a honeyhole, or keep a deer from seeing you ( i believe if you dont at uv to your clothes they dont see you anyways unless you are skylined) isnt worth getting killed, and ruining someone elses life.

Re: Do you dummies wear orange?

In addition to some of the more heavy, serious and completely valid reasons for wearing blaze orange, I would also like to add that being extremely visible has helped keep people from inadvertantly dawdling around my stand or setting up within unsafe distances from my stand. There has been a lot of times when another hunter has seen me from quite a distance and either made a detour around me or picked up the pace to get by my area as quickly as possible. That's something that's greatly appreciated. There's nothing more frustrating than watching another hunter ****-footing right through my shooting lanes for a half an hour or so, or having someone set up within close range because he didn't know you were there.

Re: Do you wear orange?

I wear orange according to the laws of my state. In rifle season in particular I actually wear more orange than needed due to I hunt on public land and never know what kind of idiots will be out there with me hunting, but instead of solid orange I wear the Realtree Hardwoods Blaze to still keep that camo effect, but stay visible to hunters.

Always wear it during ML and shotgun. Bow its not required but I where an orange hat until I get to the area I am hunting then take it off. Never know who is in the woods!!!

Re: Do you dummies wear orange?

I always wear it during shotgun season. I think 400 inches and a hat are required in IL at all times in Shotgun season. I'm hunting in a special hunt area this year and definitely will be sporting tons of orange. I would expect and appreciate that out of every hunter in my area. I don't want to be aiming at the same deer that another guy is and not even know he's there. blush.gif

In Id. where orange is not required there are at least 1 or 2 fatalities every season.

[/ QUOTE ]

So, you are saying there are never any fatalities in states that require orange? Idiots are idiots. I don't wear orange while ML hunting. If fact, the only time I wear more than the minimum orange is when we are doing drives.

[/ QUOTE ]

I do the exact same. If it wasn't manditory I wouldn't wear it at all. Everyone should be positive IDing their tragets before they shoot, if they don't then they're idiots.

Take that back, i'd only wear it when moving from place to place, even if I didn't have to.

Yep! They're idiots, and you could be dead (or worse) for not wearing blaze orange. Kind of makes you wonder just who is the idiot in that situation.

Re: Do you dummies wear orange?

I most definately wear orange. Orange isn't required during bow season BUT squirrel season starts a week before bow season and bow season goes all the way through rifle and muzzleloader season so I'll be wearing it during bow season too.... whether I'm in a stand or not.

If the deer can't see it..... what can it hurt to wear it?

Re: Do you dummies wear orange?

What did I miss that pertains to my reply? My attitude is still the same. Anyone who would not wear blaze orange when not legally required contributes to the blame for the incident and certainly is not showing a whole lot of intelligence since he is likely to come out the big loser in such an episode. It's kind of like the guy who approaches an intersection and sees that the other guy is ignoring a stop sign, but continues through the intersection anyway because he knows he is legally right. As they say ...... He was right .....DEAD right!
