Idaho_ Elk_ Huntr
I recently purchased a Rem 700 RMEF rifle in 7mm Ultra Mag. Its groups are not in line with the rest of my 700's. I tried factory ammo and one loading of Hornady 154 Interbonds with 93.5 grains of RL 25. Is it possibly to pillar bed the synthetic stock or should I scrap it and find a new one? I dont know how well the epoxy would bond to the synthetic stock. Where can I find a good set of instructions for doing it?
AJ
Re: AJ---Pillar bedding a synthetic stock? As I have said in other posts, there is no difference between pillar bedding a wood stock, synthetic stock, or laminated stock. The procedure is the same. Instructions are on the How-To page. With the junky injection molded stocks bedding is very hard as the release agent the manufacturer uses will keep the bedding material from making a good solid bond with the plastic. I don't even waste my time bedding a plastic stock anymore. I sell them or throw them away. Good quality fiberglass synthetic stocks or laminated stocks are my choices now.
