What a FIASCO!

I will give a more detailed account of my day Saturday in my journal entry but to sum it up, my day was a total FIASCO!

First of all, I still have a monkey. I missed ANOTHER doe. Estimated her range at 25 yards, shot under her, ranged the spot afterwards and she was at 30 yards. *SIGH*

Considering she was near a tree that I had ranged earlier at 24 yards and I have tied "yardage" ribbons on several trees one of which was also near her, I figured my estimate to be pretty good. NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Missing the doe wasn't the worst part actually...

I chose to change stands about 9am cause the wind really wasn't right for where I was and I was getting busted by deer. So I moved. The other stand didn't have a bow holder but I figured since I was only going to hunt for a little while longer, I'd just hold it. BAD DECISION!

My bow slid out of my lap at 16 ft up, hit the top rung of the ladder and landed on a flat rock below. Busted the nocked arrow in two and snapped the sights off.

To say the least, I was done for the day. Went straight to the bow shop on the way home. Expecting the worst. The pro shop guy checked it over, made some adjustments, remounted the sights, made more adjustments while I bit my nails. He finally brought it back to me and said, its ok, no serious damage but will need to be sighted in again. WHEW! No charge!

Sunday afternoon, I head out back to practice. I get the 10 yard pin adjusted and move out to 20. And started shooting high. I make adjustments and I'm still shooting high. My husband is watching and he says raise that pin some more. But its almost directly below my 10 yard pin now! I move it up some more. Still shooting high. So my husband suggests using the 10 yard pin at 20. I look at him like hes goofy. But I try it anyway. Bingo! Nice groups again. I'm scratchin my head.

I move out to 30 yards. Move what was originally my 20 yard pin down a bit (to what had previously been 20 yard setting) and use it at 30. Bingo! Nice groups.

I have my original 30 yard pin still in place and haven't used it! My husband says, that would be your 40 yard pin then. I'm like...yeah, but HOW?

So, the bottom line is...I have 3 pins. The top pin groups well at 10 and 20 yards. The second pin groups well at 30. And since 30 is my max at present, the 3rd pin is unused.

Other than dropping my bow, the only other change that was made is that I had the pro shop guy crank it up from 38lbs to 40. I did notice a marked difference in the speed. But is this the reason I now have a pin doing double duty at 10 and 20 yards???

And will somebody PLEASE shoot this monkey? I'm sick of him and he stinks.

Re: What a FIASCO!

I am sorry you dropped your bow but it sounds like it was a good thing in the end!

Yes I always had 1 pin from 0-20 yards and then needed a 2nd and 3rd for 30 and 40 yards.

Maybe just the few pounds higher made the difference.

But you really dont need to drop your bow to find these things out.... LOL (jk)

Good luck on the hunt too.

Re: What a FIASCO!

Well, at least I know I'm not losing my mind! At first I couldn't for the life of me figure out why what had been my 10 yard pin was now working at 20 yards as well. I was frustrated and thought something was wrong with my bow afterall.

Makes sense though for higher poundage to cause the change.

Anyway...heading back out tonight, weather permitting!
