Texan---on your ranch what age do you determine if the buck is a cull buck or not?

[/ QUOTE ]

At 2.5 we're looking for 8 points and a good frame. At 3.5 we want 10 points and a really good frame. My main question about this deer hinges on whether or not it's the same buck we videoed last year. If it is, then he went from 2.5 to 3.5 and only added a small amount of width and mass. And that was with a very good year for range conditions plus (as you can see from the pic) all of the 18% protein supplement he wants. So, is that acceptable growth for an agressive QDM program?

If you are that on sure maybe you should let him run for one more yr. just to see how it turns out. Might be surprised on what he becomes.

Have you seen any other deer from last year that have grown a respectable amount?

[/ QUOTE ]

At least one deer that was a 2.5 yo 8 point last year grew into a 10 point. Tough to make the call on most of the others without a good visual sighting. I can't think of any reason we shouldn't have had excellent antler development this year.
