Indiana's 2005/2006 Early Rut!!!

This weekend I spyed a small doe being chased by a nice buck in a cornfield. He was really bird doggin this doe. Pushing her along the way. Indiana rut usually hits around November 15 on thru to December, but this year with the cold weather we've got early the bucks are really turned on and so are the does.

Hope a buck makes a mistake this weekend.

Has the rut started early for anyone else, and if not do you expect it to start like always??

I dunno if it's rutting, or just coincidence, but in the stand yesturday as few does passed by, and bucks came walkin around right after. The does came back, then the bucks came back.

hey lilhunter, if the bucks are following those does all over the place, I think they are in rut. No coincidence at all, it's time for them to make mistakes. Rut Time!!!

The beginning of the pre-rut usually coincides with the Hunters Moon....the first full moon after the harvest moon.......which just happens to be the 17th of this month......next Monday.........

Go to the Fish and Game forecaster on the RT homepage and check out the movement times for Monday.........I'll definitely be on stand all day......

My experience tells me that even though the doe aren't ready, I'd say the bucks are ready any time of year....

That seems logical, for some reason. grin.gif

Re: Indiana\'s 2005/2006 Early Rut!!!

The actual rut won't start until the first week of November. It is not uncommon to see a few bucks dogging does in early October. You have to remember that a doe comes into esterous a couple times if they are not breed. Just like humans, they are all different. A few does will come into esterous about a month early each year. I've seen bucks chasing does in early October for as long as I can remember. Most generally, it is the younger bucks out chasing does at this time. The big boys are usually smarter than this. However, it will die off here for a couple weeks. Look for the last week in October for the bucks to start displaying serious dominance and then the first week or two of November, look out, the real rut.

Of course every year can be different depending on how the moon phases fall in the callendar and how the weather plays out, but that will usually only shift things a week or so either way.

yea I hope the big rut remains on schedule instead of speeding up. I only have shotgun season and I want all of the rut to make it happen!

Re: Indiana\'s 2005/2006 Early Rut!!!

Last night my hunting buddy and myself went out and looked and spot lighted the area we hunt. We saw a nice 10 pt trying to mount a doe already, he wasn't successful at all. He got kicked by her hind legs in the neck. Looks like me with women lol.

At our areas we hunt we saw up to 50 deer.
