Busting a flock

Re: Busting a flock

Calling them back is basically the fun part, but if you are worried about them not regrouping, just shoot the first time you see them. If you come across a flock of toms, do not bust them up. They won't regroup for days or weeks at a time only because they are the biggest birds around and can survive on their own and could care less about company. Unlike hens and poults which are the easiest to bust and call back. Good luck! Also, as for calls, try to do some kee-kees if you bust hens and poults and maybe some purrs and clucks like a lost hen.

Re: Busting a flock

I know the method is to locate, bust them up and call back in for the fall.

I never understood why you'd bust them up in the 1st place...if you found them...why chase them?

Shoot if within range!

Unless of course a stalk is useless and its the only way to access the birds.

The birds seem to be more tolerant of disturbances in the fall, especially if they are in a good food source.
