Guest chrispy
i have grown up hunting where there aren't any ticks, or atleast not enough to be worried about. and this year i will be hunting in mass., where there are quite a few ticks. last thursday i was out scouting and i found a few on my pant legs and it started to concern me, and now i feel like i have them crawling all over me. so my questions are.... even if you check your body for them, will you know if one has burrowed into you??? is there certain spots on the body where they like to go, common sense would say armpits, crotch, (any place warm) but just want to ask. and also, how long will they stay on your body before burrowing into your skin. i feel like there things crawling in my hair, but its hard you check your own hair, and they would be hard to see in there. any experiences, suggestions, and commits are greatly appreciated. Guest Rhinodog
Re: TICKS??????? Permanone. You can get it at walmart for about $6 a can. Spray you pant legs well, but don't spray it on your skin. I hate ticks, they are evil Check all the places you mentioned. They seem to like the warm spots. They also like to dig into your head, back around your neck.
Guest chrispy
Re: TICKS??????? if you take a shower and use just regular shampoo, will that get them out if they aren't burrowed in? there probably isn't anything in my hair, but the more i think about it, it feels like they are crawling all around my head. thanks for the advice rhinodog
longislandhunter
Re: TICKS??????? Where I live and hunt the tick problem is out of control, has been for years. As a result anyone who hunts here goes to great lengths to practice tick control. The "permanone" that Rhinodog mentioned does in fact work well. Another thing that can prevent them from crawling up your leg onto your body is to buy 2 name brand flea collars that they sell for dogs and put on one each leg (tighten it over your hunting socks). I know it sounds funny but it really works well. There is one more trick that works exceptionally but it sounds even "weirder" than the flea collars bit, but it will work,,,,,, ticks cannot get through the very fine mesh of womens pantyhose,,,,,, if you get a larger size pair of pantyhose and put them on then even if a tick does get past your other defenses it will not be able to get through the panty hose and attach itself to your skin. I know it sound funny, or weird, but I swear it works and I have no problem with my friends laughing at me if it means I'm tick free and even more importantly lymes disease free !! Guest chrispy
Re: TICKS??????? jqbennett6, i am hunting in western MA. if i had ticks in my hair wouldn't they have already burrowed into my skin, i was last in the field on last thursday. i guess that i am trying to take as many precautions as possible. when you guys get done with a hunt, do you completely check over all of your camo for ticks? i have had them on my clothes before but haven't noticed them on my body. i could only imagine that if they got on your clothes and you brought your clothes in the house, you would have them in your house, and adventually they would get back on your body. maybe i am being way to paranoid about it. StillLearnin
Re: TICKS??????? Hey that panty hose trick sounds like a good idea i'll try it next time since i hunt alone so no one can laugh. I have found that by just using a good spraying of OFF works great too although you smell awfull so it's not great in hunting situations. And as always check EVERY part of your body as soon as possible so they don't have as much time to get burrow in.

GoodOlMossyHorns
Re: TICKS??????? Yeah, not only will the panty hose keep ticks out, but also act as thin thermals, and they even wick sweat away. Not that i would know that or anything. unioncountyslayer
Re: TICKS??????? Just make sure you check yourself really well. I got a bacteria infection from a tick bite about a month ago and my lymph node in my neck still hasn't gone all the way down to normal size. Also try using No Stinkin' Bugs Spray from Dicks/Bass Pro shops and a thermacell.
