Guest Andrea
I am going to get mine next week. After being fed up with getting a nagging cough that lasts ALL hunting season..I decided to start getting a flu shot 2 years ago. I haven't had a cold in the winter months since!!! For me, there's nothing more aggravating than having deer in front of you and trying not to cough.

Turkeygirl
Re: Who gets flu shots?? I never have, probably won't. I've heard of people getting the flu shot, I actually know a few people at campus, and they just got a cold or the flu anyway. there are so many strains of the flue, that one flu shot is only going to protect you against that flu, none of the others. Tominator
Re: Who gets flu shots?? I was scheduled to last year since the docs took all those lymph nodes out of my neck, but if you remember, there was a flu shot shortage in the country last year, so they canceled it. I just got a memo on my desk the other day for flu shots. I guess I should schedule one.

JimT
Re: Who gets flu shots?? Not me. I have never got the flu. My wife gets the shot every year, and still gets the flu at least every other....
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Who gets flu shots?? Turkeygirl is correct. Sometime during the summer, the powers that be decide on which strain of flu is most likely to occur, and they manufacture a vaccine specifically for that. If there's an outbreak of something different, there's a good chance the vaccine will be ineffective. However, it's completely impossible to catch the flu by getting the shot, so it does absolutely no harm to get one. Since I work for a hospital district, I'm more or less required to get one. BTW - If your arm is sore after getting a shot, it's your own fault. It's not what's in the injection that causes the soreness; it's the trauma to the tissues of your arm. After a shot, try exercising the muscle for several minutes and it will eliminate most or all of the pain.
Guest Andrea
Re: Who gets flu shots?? I am just glad that I don't have a stinkin cough. It works for me!!!!!!! I don't even get a common cold!!
popgun
Re: Who gets flu shots?? I'll probably get one whenever the VA calls and tells me they are ready. I am not advocating skipping church, but I think most of the flu around here is spread during services. You know the drill... Sunday Services start....Sing a hymn or two....Preacher gives his opening announcements.....Time for everyone to greet one another....Shake hands....Some will venture from one end of the building to the other to see how many hands they can shake....nowhere to wash....sit for an hour incubating the germs....spred some more while leaving....Wash when you get home.....TOO LATE!!!! Monday cough...Tuesday sore throat... Wednesday go back to church and get a germ booster...Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, sick as a dog....Sunday go back to church and see how many others you can spread your germs to...Then Repeat.. Also be sure to boast of never missing a Sunday Service. Instead of having hymnals on the back of each pew they should have a supply of germicidal baby wipes. ....popgun
Guest Andrea
Re: Who gets flu shots?? Not only is it spread at places like church, but basically anywhere! Especially at SCHOOL. Everyone knows that kids aren't the cleanliest of people. No telling what kinda germs they bring home with them!!!
puffy
Re: Who gets flu shots?? I haven't had one that I can recall. I beleive that your imune system can combat most things without the intervention of chemicals. Not to sound negative, but in my experience , my body does well with as little ouside influence as possible.

Shaun_300
Re: Who gets flu shots?? I only get the flu about once every 5 years, so I've never believed its worth taking the time off work to go to the hospital go get a needle in my arm. Guest Andrea
Re: Who gets flu shots?? [ QUOTE ] I don't think you should get one unless your body has an immune deficiency. It just causes more expense for the ones who HAVE to have it. I mean we were doing fine without it, why now all of a sudden it's a must have? [/ QUOTE ] That's just it...we weren't doing just fine without it. I would never try to get a flu shot if there was a shortage. The very young and the elderly are the most at risk. They need them the most. HOWEVER.......when there is plenty to go around....I will most assuredly get mine. I do not like to be sick. And the flu shot keeps me from getting sick. Mach1
Re: Who gets flu shots?? Never got one. Haven't got anything more than a cold since I had my tonsils taken out, due to strep throat and something else, when I was a baby and I'm 24 now. My fiancee has to get one because she is in nursing school and she works at a children's hospital.
