RangerClay
Re: Who gets flu shots?? NEVER!!! I do not inject myself with live virus' Those of you who have small children like Lou should be aware that some strains of the vaccine contain mercury. Some studies have found a connection with flu shots and autism. I was at my pediatrician two days ago. He asked me about a flu shot for my 15 month old son. I told him no because of the mercury and he responded, "ok". NOT, there is no mercury, but "ok". Ranger
Guest mnarcher
Re: Who gets flu shots?? None of us in my family gets one. My dad does since he works in a hospital and he also gets the flu each year. We don't get sick anymore since my wife started home schooling the kids. I think that most of the colds that we got were from the school. It used to make me so mad when the kids would come home and tell us that Jimmy threw up in class today. I can't believe parents will send sick kids to school.
elkoholic
Re: Who gets flu shots?? My view of the flu shot "push" is that it is just another scare tactic by the government. Let me explain. It appears that we can not exist without some fear of impending doom hanging over our heads. Growing up in the fifties, McCarthyism, the Cold War and the threat of communism ruled the day. Now, with those threats gone (although the terrorism threat is taking it's place) the government is pushing threats to our health at the top of the list of things to fear. Anyone for the Avian Flu? Injecting anything into your body, be it a dead virus or not, that does not belong there is cause for concern. As previously stated, some of the vaccines contain a preservative that is 50% mercury by weight and there is always a vehicle in which the active part of the vaccine is carried, often an egg or peanut oil base. One of the greatest risks I see is that we are not allowing our natural immune systems to develop. That situation is made worst by the over use of antibiotics, which is another story. Some of you may think that I am cold by my next statement, but, most deaths caused by influenza (not to be confused with the term, flu) are at risk patients (mostly elderly) who would be looking at a limited life span with a diminished quality of life anyway. Remember, all of us will die, the cause is irrelevant. No one gets out of this life alive. Granted, some people appear to have added benefits from the flu shot, such as never getting a cold afterwards, but here are a few facts; it takes the vaccine approximately two weeks to become affective and it retains it's effectiveness for eight to twelve weeks. If you get a flu shot now and there is a late flu season, you would need a second shot to do you any good. They have not guessed right on the type of flu strain for several years now and every year there has been problems with supply, mostly due to quality issues (contaminated vaccines). As a pharmacist I have issues with the CDC and it's fear campaign, I am not against vaccines in general, but to suggest that people with healthy immune systems should be getting a flu shot is ridiculous. Sorry for the long post, but I am tired of the living in "fear of something" society we have become. Those of you who have impaired immune systems, get a flu shot. Those of you who fear getting sick....get a flu shot. Feed the frenzy!
wtnhunt
Re: Who gets flu shots?? Have not gotten one in a long time. The wife got one Wednesday at her doctors appointment. They strongly suggested she take it being pregnant, she did. Guess I will getting one too this year, work is supposed to be offering it, but have not heard anything back from them since signing up for it.
