Re: difference in brace heights

Well, a low brace height will shoot faster than a bow with a higher brace height. The flip side is however that a lower brace height bow is less forgiving than one with a higher brace height, which means any minor shooting flaw will be amplified. So basically if you jerk a little bit with a high brace height bow you may miss 1" right, left, high etc., but with a low brace height bow that may be a 6" miss. Most recommend that any bow with a 7" brace height or higher is perfect for most archers because they offer forgiveness and good speed as well. Anything below 7" should be left to the pros, unless you have absolute flawless form, and you can do that everytime. My High COuntry has a 7 1/2" brace height, is deadly accurate in my hands and launches my Beman ICS Camo 340 Carbon arrows @ 279 fps. Hope this helps.

what is the difference between a low brace height and a high brace height

[/ QUOTE ]

It's the distance between the bow string and the riser at the point where your hand lays in the grip (between thumb and index finger). A low brace makes the string travel farther with the arrow and is closer to the riser. A higher brace is a longer distance between the string and riser.

I've read the higher brace is more forgiving and can understand the logic. But don't let that persuade you into buying a bow. I bought a bow (Mathews Rival Pro) because it had an 8" brace, long ATA, and on paper is very forgiving. I never enjoyed that bow. In fact, I shot an older Mathews 3D Vapor with less than 6" brace better (much better). The moral of my story is, shoot what works for you. What works for one, may not work for another.

Re: difference in brace heights

A low brace height will usually be faster, but less forgiving meaning that your shooting form will have to be almost perfect to make a perfect shot. A high brace height is usually a little slower, but it is more forgiving and you can get away with more shooting form flaws. Many people prefer a higher brace height, but there are those that like a shorter brace height. I prefer a brace height of 6" or more personally. I hope this helps.
