Which safety harness?

Well I am kind of torn on which safety harness to purchase. I always hear of people having the Hunter Safety Sytem one. That is an option, or the Seat O The Pants Supreme? Maybe even the Gorilla Deluxe Full Body Vest Harness? What is the most comfortable one and one that won't hurt as much if I was to fall. Also, another note, which one is better for shooting when you are turned toward the strap attached to the tree? The harness I have now, it's impossible to shoot like that.

Re: Which safety harness?

i have the SOP quick harness--it's not a vest but has a mesh back--very easy to put on. There is a video on bowsite.com comparing the SOP Vest and the HSS Vest. They both did a great job stopping the fall but the user experience severe crotch pain from the HSS system--but that was just one man's test. The most important aspect is to wear one!

Re: Which safety harness?

I wear a Hunter Safety System vest, and I love it. It was a little more costly than maost other brands, but its the most comfortable and easy to use system I've ever used. I can be in and out of the vest in seconds, and its so comfortable that I really forget that I'm wearing one. But the choice is up to you, I'm just glad to see that you are going to make a very, very good investment in a harness.

I bought one at Fleet Farm that is just a chest harness. It doesn't go around my legs. I have not fallen out of the tree to test it but it has to be better than the waist strap that came with my ladder stand. I used to wear the full body harness with the crotch straps in the Navy and I always hated them so I got this one instead.

The problem with these is that unless you fall in a way that allows you to quickly get back to the tree to get your weight off the strap, it can constrict your chest, causing you to pass out and eventually suffocate. Full body harness is leaps and bounds better.

Old style SOP for me.

Re: Which safety harness?

the cool thing about the seat o the pants harness as well as the summit one is that the attach to the tree with the quick rope and the prusic.. or whatever its called knot. very easy to use and quiet. on a side note when i bought my sop the buckles were backwards lol i could pull it loose but not tight! i wondered for a while before reversing them!

Re: Which safety harness?

Yeah I made sure I went to this site and watched all the videos. Thanks for the link. I went ahead and purchased the Seat O The Pants Fastback Harness. I chose this because of price, description and the pictures of the harness itself, which all makes it seem like a breeze to wear. I'm not saying the others aren't, this one was just a little more in my price range at the moment. Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it.

Re: Which safety harness?

I also use the one that came with my Summit climber. It is comfortable. Only bad thing about it is getting it untangled first time you put it on in the morning. If I would fold it up somehow probably wouldn't have that problem but I just shove it in my bag when done. I have thought about getting the seat of the pants harness.

If your Summit stand was bought in the last few years, then the harness you have is a SOP harness already. I found the trick to getting it right when you put it on, is to find the piece of the harness with the metal claw that grabs the prussic knot. Once you have that and hold it up, it only takes a matter of seconds to put it on.

Have never had any problems with mine getting tangled up. Always unbuckle the straps that go around the legs and the chest when I put it up. Takes less than a minute to put it on.
