Ohiobucks
After your successful in filling a tag, do you dive right in where the animal lays and field dress it there, or do you drag it out of your hunting area and dress it then? Do you think other deer avoid a gut pile? Just me thinking....

MrWiggely
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? right where it dropps, I have seen deer standing next to gut piles only half hour after I dressed the deer and it didn't bother them a bit. NS whitetail
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? I usually drag it a little ways from where I killed it ( but not far), It don't take long for the crows and coyotes to clean up the gut pile
Guest MonsterBuckMatt
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? it depends on the wheather and the place. if i have to drag along way i will gut then. but if not i will gut it away from the spot
Tom2008
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? I gut it where it falls. The yotes and wolves eat the guts right up and the deer keep comin around.
JimT
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? I do it right where they fall. Much easier to drag. I do not think it bothers the other deer at all...
tedicast
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? We gutted my doe from last saturday right where she dropped. About 40 yards from my stand. It was gonna be hot the following week, so my bro went in the following morning with a shovel to bury it, to keep the stench down. When he got to the area, there were 1/2 dozen deer all over the area, all with in shooting distance of the stand. It didn't bother them in the least. BLH
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? I always take them to the skinning rack whole and skin and gut them there, then take the guts and all in a 5 gallon bucket to one of the coyote stands. MuZZyMomentZ
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? We have a place down by a creek that we take all the deer to dress. With our DMAPs program allowing us to take 28+ does off our land each year, it becomes quite the gut pile.
dogdoc
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? i just usually drag it to the front of the property unless it is deep in the woods and I have to manually drag it---then i gut it where it falls. todd

brain
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? i bring mine home and gut it on my tailgate.i let the pile fall into a trash can for easy removal.then i can wash the deer out without getting any dirt in the meat. Guest Bob_D
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? I take it to the front of the property and field dress it on the tailgate of the truck. I use bungie cords to hold the legs open. It's easier to work on a table like surface. Ohiobucks
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? Thanks for your responses guys. I am by all means no rookie at this, I have taken my share of deer with the bow and gun. I always gut them where they fall. Just interested in getting everyone's take on this issue. colescott1
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? I field dress it back at the farm in the lights (usually evening hunts), and then the next AM, I take the gutpile, hide, head ect up to a section of woods that I don't hunt and deliver for the fox, buzzards, etc. This last buck I took, I took the "junk" up into the woods on a riding mower, and cut down some briars as I was heading into the woods just a few feet. Dumped the remains. Next day, I went back to dump some of the other junk, and a buck had made a brand new rub right across, not 10 feet from this pile. I'm convinced it was the tarsal glands of the dead buck there that adgitated (sp?) this new buck and caused him to mark.
longislandhunter
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? I do the same thing colescott1 does. I take the deer home, dress it out and then take the gut pile out to a small patch of woods that I don't hunt. I use the same patch of woods to deposit the hide, head and bones to after I skin and bone out the deer. It's a little extra work and trouble, but I just don't want to take the chance of tainting my hunting areas. Whether it does in fact taint an area I really don't know, I just don't want to take the chance.

ladydiehard
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? I field dress right there. I've had deer come up the same day and days after and walk right up and sniff the gut pile. They never even flinched.
hutchies
Re: When and/or where do you field dress? In Oklahoma I gut it where it falls. In Texas with all those idiots that have to have a hoist and chest splitter and all that crap we do it at the barn. Plus they think it scares deer away. What scares deer away is when they get wasted and go trashing around in the jeep.
