dogdoc
Re: Stickers Jason--there is a product called Simizine (sp?). It is a pre-emergence herbicide. It works great for stickers. You apply the first application in Febuary and a repeat application the first of June. This products prevents germination of the seed. You can purchase this product at Estes Inc--it's located downtown right by where you work. The stickers can lay dormant for years and years so that is why you need to use a pre-emergent to control future germination. todd
Gator
Re: Stickers Thanks todd, I will definately be getting some of this stuff!! How does it work on plants that are up? I know for a fact I will have small patches come up in July, But then again, I can burn these out!
bfletch7441
Re: Stickers How does this work with discing? I thought I killed all the weeds last year, but these things are relentless. They are all over one of my wheat and pea plots and if I don't do something now, or in the spring, I'll never have a good clean stand of anything. dogdoc
Re: Stickers doesn't work on existing plants. you either need to spray with a product like round-up (but then you will kill our lawn) or keep it mowed very short. burning is also an option. The best option is to spray every year in areas that are prone for sticker infestations. The patches you see come up in July will be controlled with your June application of Simizine. Discing just covers the seeds and promotes germination of the sticker seed.
Gator
Re: Stickers The July patches are more a plant here or there, they aren't concentrated like everything else. And as far as round up, at this point, I don't care what I kill off!!! Does SIMIZINE hurt bermuda? I got stickers in some good bermuda that I don't want to kill off, everything else I could care less about!!
AaronS
Re: Stickers How big is the lawn and how thick is the sticker density? If neither is too large, make a wick applicator and soak it in Roundup (or similar) and coat each plant invidually.
dogdoc
Re: Stickers gator---my dad told me you can spot spray with MSMA (crabgrass killer) and kill the plant and it will not harm bermuda....Simizine will not harm bermuda either
