Guys i have the oppurtunity to buy 28 acres, in PAYNE CO, Oklahoma. the acreage is on the river bottom. If you live in OKlahoma Panye county is a good county for deer. I was wonder what your thoughts are on this Small of an acreage would be good for deer hunting, and also deer management. What are your thoughts?

Re: What do you guys think?

In addition to my main hunting property, I have a small 20 acre spot that's close to my house. I bet we've killed over 50 bucks off that small piece of property simply because there's virtually no hunting around it. Like the others said, it all depends on the bordering land owners how well the hunting may be.

I don't see where you could go wrong..... A nice place to live and with a few well placed plots to hold some pass through deer for bow hunting,,, I'd definately consider it... wink.gifwink.gif

Good Luck Ryan... smile.gif

Ryan--like you said Payne County always produces great deer--every year. Twenty eight acres doesn't sound like a lot but there are lots of deer killed on smaller properties and deer don't know property lines--heck on my 80 acres I only hunt about 20 acres of it. The hardest part is trying to have a sanctuary and being very careful not to over pressure the deer.

Like I told you before--River bottoms have the richest soils and usually produce the biggest bucks!

good luck with your decision.

With that size acreage, it is going to depend greatly on how the neighboring landowners manage their herd. People have had great results with smaller acreages than that.

Yep. We have 60 acres plus exclusive rights to the adjacent 35 acres of which 30 is solid hardwoods. Due to no control by the shooters in the woods on the properties behind us I have only become more and more frustrated with trying to manage our property.

Ryan, friend of mine came by the other day, his boy hunts 25 acres. You should see the BUCKS on this place, from spikes up to 10pt, and there is a BIGGUN in there to, think he was a 9pt. It was UNREAL the amount of bucks to does in his pictures, and all this on 25 acres.
