Dakota
My dad and I bought a "Hunter's View" 12 ft. ladder stand from Walmart the other day. Our hunting land has two big ravines with fields in between. There are a lot of deer and several worn out trails. I bow hunt and rifle and muzzleloader hunt too. Should I place the stand down in the ravines where all the acorns are, or should I place it along a fenceline cooridor? Help me out guys! I've got two buck tags that I don't want to waste. Thanks for any info. I hope to go out Sat. around Turkey Ridge, SD.
huntrman
Re: tree stands As of right now, I would place it in a well known travel route that heads to those acorns if there aren't any fields that still need to be harvested. Find a travel route to what they are eating, then it will be up to you.
ruttinbuc
Re: tree stands Ravines are notorious travel routes, but be careful of the wind. It will swirl your scent everywhere. I would place it on a trail leading to the ravines.

Guest asilvia68
Re: tree stands I would stay away from the ravine and head toward the acorns. Probably 30-40 yards ahead of the acorns along the path. Be able to see them come in and go out. Perfect setup IMO.

shockwave
Re: tree stands i hunted some ravines with heavy trails for 2 days without seeing a single deer, i moved closer to their food source, cornfields and acorns, and have seen 4 bucks in 2 days none close enough to shoot at
Tominator
Re: tree stands Personally, I try to avoid low areas if at all possible because of wind currents. Bottoms are notorious for shifting winds. If you have a nice constant breeze the ravine would be fine, otherwise I'd choose the ridge. Dakota
Re: tree stands Hey thanks for all the tips, friends. It's good to have people that you can talk to about hunting. I'm going out tomorrow with my Martin compound. I'm taking your opinions to heart. Thanks!
