Hillbilly
I'm heading out this evening around 5:00pm... only gonna hunt a couple of hours, basically gonna do some walking with bow in hand. The wind is gonna be perfect for tonight to stroll through the woods. Tonight im gonna try and take a mature doe. You all know that does bunch up with other does, sometimes a doe will feed other fawns. I've seen it before. If you take out the leader doe (the one that keeps an eye out for danger) will the fawns of that doe be taken care of by the other mature doe. Hope I didn't lose anyone! Tominator
Re: Doe herds? Fawns this time of year are fine without momma. If you want a deer, shoot. I wouldn't give another thought to the fawns.
Dakota
Re: Doe herds? I think those fawns will be ok, man. They're old enough and if the population is big, they will be taken care of by others. Or at least they won't be alone. Good luck!
RangerClay
Re: Doe herds? Most fawns are weaned by early September. They should be fine. There will be others to fill in for mama doe. Joe

shockwave
Re: Doe herds? go for mama, every fawn you let live could end up being a 10 point tomorrow, providing it`s a buck fawn, lol

wtnhunt
Re: Doe herds? Nope, I do not think it is common for a doe to let another does fawn nurse. They know their own. They will however let them be adopted to their herds. Had some born in July here again this year, means they would be about 3 months old now. Not sure if getting cut off the momma milk early might not have a negative effect on the early nutrition and potential for future growth.
