Re: catfishing

Noodling is probably the cheapest method. No rods or reels or line or bait. Heck...most cases you don't even need a boat.

Very inexpensive, that is unless you break a couple of fingers. Or better yet......get them bitten OFF by a little ol alligator snappin turtle. shocked.gifshocked.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

LOL.....nah, just messin with you. ( Even though that DOES happen)

We need to know what kind of catfish you are going after and on what body of water...like a lake, pond, or river. And are you going in a boat or doing this from shore. wink.gif

Re: catfishing

If it's legal to jugline, that is an excellent way to catch cats. Your bigger blues and flatheads prefer live bait. We use perch here, with pretty good results. Are there any trees standing in the lake? If so, make you some limb lines, find a limb hanging out over the water, bait it with a a perch. Your flats should be around these trees

Re: catfishing

I figuerd I would take a boat and puts some limb lines out as long with some jugs and do a little rod and real fishing as well.Maybe even put some trot lines out to.

Re: catfishing

This is one of my juglines. Lead weight, 45Ft of line, 7/0 circle hooks spaced at 4' intervals, and a swim noodle cut in 3 sections, or 20" apiece. I usually run 2 hooks. Size hooks can vary, depending on what size fish are predominant. I also have a bolt through mine to cinch the line around, easier than trying to get the line around the noodle and not prone to unravelling

gator,

Do those circle hooks work well with live shad?

Circle hooks work fine but I just don't like them. I would rather just use them in salt water.

In fresh water when fishing for cats...I prefer to "set" my hook.

And no, this isn't gator, but thought I'd tell you anyway. wink.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Re: catfishing

We always fished for catfish around here from a boat at night. What we used was a sturdy rod, some sturdy line, a rather large barbed hook, a nice sinker, and for bait we used chicken livers. Just cast out and lay back in the boat and wait they come in and put up a pretty good fight when they do bite. Caught some nice catfish many times that way on the Susquehanna River.
