shockwave
I was wondering what every one considered what a trophy was in their own eyes ? Personally, i say any deer shot with a bow is a trophy. My way of thinking is; that there are 1000 things that can go wrong when shooting at a deer, whether it be a buck or a doe, either can be considered a trophy... I was just wondering what everyone else thought ??

BowJoe
Re: What do you consider a trophy ? Let me ask you something. Are you really excited to shoot a doe? Are you excited to shoot a buck? Then that's your answer. A trophy is in the eye of the beholder.
maytom
Re: What do you consider a trophy ? While some of us shoot the first deer we see, I usually hold out for a "respectable" buck, meaning that a spike, crotch horn, or small racked bucks usually will walk. But that's just a restriction that I placed on myself. After waiting all year for the season to get here, I don't want it to end on the first spike that walks by. Griz
Re: What do you consider a trophy ? It doesn't matter if there small, med. or large, there all trophy's and I will thank God for each and everyone that I harvest...
tedicast
Re: What do you consider a trophy ? I agree with just about everyone else here. Any deer I kill I am thrilled with and consider it a trophy. To consider as less tthen a trophy seems a little disrespectfull.

TreeWalker
Re: What do you consider a trophy ? Who cares about the antis.....and I refuse to be politically correct because somebodies sensative nature may get offended.......a bow isn't a firearm...it's a weapon, which by definition is any instrument of offense or defense.... Now back to the topic at hand.......since this is the BOWHUNTING room, I say any trophy to me is guaged on an increasing scale.......what I mean to say, is the first of any species is always special, but I then try every year to improve on that last accomplishment.........I now find myself trying to take an animal that scores well over the P&Y minimum......I pass up many 125-135 class whitetails, but consider 140+ a trophy..........just as I pass up many antelope in the 65-70" range and consider one 70+ a trophy...........haven't had a chance to hunt much else, though I have shot one Muley also, but he was my first and wasn't big by any standards.... TreeWalker
Re: What do you consider a trophy ? After a quick reflection on my respsone, I feel the need to add that the hunt or hunts also factor in to the equation............the antelope I shot this year, wasn't as big as I initially thought, but he gave me so many incredible hunts, that i will never forget.....a trophy for sure.... Doc
Re: What do you consider a trophy ? I think my definition of a trophy still consists of the traditional requirement of big antlers. Probably defined by something I would like to get mounted to hang on the wall. Trophies are for others to look at and get all impressed over. What is more important to me is which animals represent the biggest challenge and successful use of real hunting skills and woodlore. Those may or may not actually be the ones that make it to my wall. I tend to separate out trophy status from success and acheivement. To me success, satisfaction, pride and acheivement have nothing to do with what is displayed on my wall. Some of my most satisfying hunts have involved harvesting some deer that would leave other people completely unimpressed. It's also true that some of my biggest deer had less to do with skill, scouting and hunting prowess than just plain ol' good luck. So while some deer may actually be displayed as a trophy, there are many more that actually bring back memories of presenting the greatest challenges and feelings of accomplishment. Guest Finn
Re: What do you consider a trophy ? A trophy is a nice buck. Sorry, I just don't buy a yearling spike or fork being a "trophy"....unless it's a kid's first deer. Having a successful hunt is anything I kill humanely. Saying everything I get is a trophy reminds me of youth sports. Everyone gets a trophy.

tedicast
Re: What do you consider a trophy ? Everyone hunts for personal reasons. If you are like me, and any deer you take you consider a trophy, there is nothing wrong with that. If it takes big antlers for you to consider it a trophy, that's your choice too. Neither is wrong. Hunting is personal, not a game to keep score of. You only have to please yourself.
