Re: What do you consider a trophy ?

Sounds like alot of you guys in here just kill anything you see and consider it a trophy. That's killing, not hunting. The thrill of hunting is watching the small bucks grow over the years and then if you have the opportunity presents itself to take a mature Buck that's what a trophy is to me. For every spike you kill, that's one less big boy you'll see.

I have not seen one person here that answered this thread, even suggest that they shoot every deer they see. What a lot of people are saying, is that every deer they decide to kill they consider a trophy. Like I said in a previous reply, hunting is a personal thing. I don't have to please you, or anyone else with the deer I decide to kill. and likewise, no one has to please me with their decisions. As long as it is a legal animal where you hunt, NO ONE should have any problem with any deer killed.

Hhmmm,, seems to me that you have never hunted in Vermont. If you had you would be spectating instead of killing....JMO

A trophy is what you make of it.... the size of the deer and it's antlers has absolutely nothing to do with an animal being a trophy..... A trophy is what you put into it.... if you put 110% of yourself into a spike horn... then that's a trophy to the person that has killed that animal.....Who are you or anybody else to say that animal isn't a trophy to that person..

Who are you to judge what a person may think is or is not a trophy.... If you wait on true mature deer as you say you do, that's great for you,,, but don't sit there and condem the next guy and his/her way of hunting and what they may consider a trophy in their hearts.... crazy.gifcrazy.gif

Tedicast, did that spike comment offend you, cause that deer you're dragging in the picture would explain it

[/ QUOTE ]

No, actually the spike comment didn't offend me at all. It is your attitude that offends me. For you information, that isn't a spike I'm dragging, it is a 6. Is it big?...no. It was my first buck, and a respectable deer for the area I hunt.

Hunting isn't equal oppurtunity unfortunately. If I hunted an area where I could have lett hat deer walk, I would have in a heartbeat. I kill deer to fill the freezer, period.

You will find that bashing other peoples "trophies" here isnt accepted, or tolerated.

Hey 5-Point, I've got 5 on the wall, all 8-pt or better, one 150 class buck killed in NC which is a rareity. Just since you asked, but those that do it for the thrill of the hunt and seeing "Big Boy" don't have to flash a picture to brag about it, especially a spike.

[/ QUOTE ]

You call those trophies.....LOL

Where's saskman when you need him...He'll show you what big deer are all about.... but you will never hear him bash another hunters deer.... big or small....

And for your info... I'd rather kill a doe than a buck..... tongue.gifwink.gif

HaHa Tedicast smile.gif What you do is cut just up to the front legs, cut the neck, remove the hide, process the meat and take those horns to the taxidermist and he'll cook you up a nice wall steak!

Your really starting to go overboard,,with the comments..... I think you need to chill out abit and do some thinking..... crazy.gifcrazy.gif

Re: What do you consider a trophy ?

Ok 5-Point, you accuse me a assuming things about other people, what they kill and what a trophy is. But at the same time you are accusing me of being a slob hunter and a gun only hunter. And I don't think in any way I'm a professional, but where I live and the hunt clubs that I'm in, we trophy manage, and that's why I made the comments I made, then you and Vermont got all bent out of shape. and by the way, I shoot a Matthews Outback and before that a PSE package bow. I only gun hunt about 2 weeks out of the season.

unioncountyslayer,

I can almost guarantee he and I won't be they only ones to get bent out of shape over your comments,,, we just happen to be the only dummies up this late..... grin.gifgrin.gif

When you go and accuse hard working peole of going out and killing anything in site you are asking for a world of you know what...... Those comments on tedicast deer where just totally unacceptable IMO.... He worked hard and waited patiently for that deer......and then you just dump on it...that's crazy in my book...

Re: What do you consider a trophy ?

I don't know 5point...this deer was pretty rut dumb...he was with 2 does, not offering me a shot. I grunted him away from the does, and on a beeline to me. He took a 12 gauge slug at bow range.

not that I'm complaining. Was cool to actually grunt him away from the does, and too me.
