Good All around shotgun

Re: Good All around shotgun

I've got the Remington 870 Wingmaster. Like others said, try a few out and see what one fits you best, and what you like to shoot better. I can't say a bad thing about my 870. Well I do sometimes wish that it'd hold the 3" and 3 1/2" shells, it's only chambered for the 2-3/4".

Re: Good All around shotgun

If I were to buy another shotgun, I would be looking at this if I needed an ALL-AROUND gun!

011101m.jpg

Versatile, gas-operated 3 1/2" chamber shoots all 1 1/8 oz. and larger field loads up to 3 1/2" magnums • 3" model shoots all 1 oz., 2 3/4" target loads to the heaviest 3" magnums • 3 1/2" models feature a magazine cut-off.

I always wanted a A-5 Browning like my father has. But having a limited income, that wasnt going to happen. So I save my money and got an all around shotgun, Browning 500G. This gun has performed flawlessly since I bought it! Too bad they dont make them anymore. But, if I were to buy one now, this would be it.

Re: Good All around shotgun

actually, if you wanted a semi-auto, you could probably pick up a used 1187 for $400 (or the older version 1100) - it's the semi-auto version of the 870 - can't say enough good about either gun, they'll go and go and go.

Re: Good All around shotgun

Go with the 870 all the way

it is the most dependable gun out there but i would get it in synthetic stock

cause i put mine through the grinder and it still never fails

i use it for duck hunting and goose hunting

also i have a slug barrel for deer since here in illinois i cant use a rifle which is stupid but thats another story

I have seen a lot of Browning BPS Stalkers on the used rack in the 3.5 inch version for around $300, and they haven't been used very much at all.

that is a solid shotgun that would do the job quite well

I have on in the 3 inch version with a 24 inch barrel I use for long beards.

i have a remington 870 super mag 3 1/2" and a mossberg 835 ulti mag 3 1/2" and i love them both. kinda like the ulti mag more b/c it has ported barrels. both of those guns are in your price range, and the new mossberg 935 auto loader in synthetic black should be in your range also.

I've got one in 3 1/2, it's a great gun but it's just so dang heavy. There are better choices for an "all around" gun. Using it chasing pheasants or quail just gets cumbersome. But for Turkeys, Ducks and Geese it's fantastic.

That Nova has a good rep, my buddy owns one and it's a lot lighter than the browning. He uses his for everything and loves it. It goes for under $400.00

I would look at the 870 though. 870's are bulletproof. I would have bought one but when I bought the Browning but at that time browning was the only one other than mossy to be chambered in 3 1/2. I have 2 870's that are just great guns. Easy to clean, and very very common. 870's also go under $400.00

Good luck.
